Flying into Sydney for the marathon next weekend? Your guide on where to stay, what to eat and what to do

If you’re jetting into Sydney for just a few days around the marathon, you’ll want to be savvy about how you see the highlights. The most efficient (and memorable) way to take it all in? Book a flight with Sydney Seaplanes, which offers 15-minute highlights tours of the harbour and has to have been the best thing I did in my whole 18 months living in the sparkling, waterside city. It’s expensive, at $330 per person, but you’ll see Bondi Beach, the Harbour Bridge and Opera House in a matter of minutes – and come away buzzing for the rest of the day. There’s also a 30-minute Sydney Secrets tour, taking in the northern beaches of Sydney as well as the harbour (including Palm Beach, where Home & Away was filmed), as well as various seaplane and dining experiences if you’re looking for an extra special post-marathon treat. The flight featuring lunch at the Cottage Point Inn on the Hawkesbury River is a customer favourite, and takes four hours in total including flying time.
