Get involved with South Lanarkshire Council’s petitions process

If deemed appropriate, the Petitions Committee, first established in 2018, can consider petitions put forward by communities and individuals.

Communities and individuals across South Lanarkshire are being encouraged to get involved with the council’s decision-making processes.

Public petitions help address issues which affect people’s daily lives and improve the ability to engage directly with the council.

If deemed appropriate, the Petitions Committee, first established in 2018, can consider petitions put forward by communities and individuals.

Petitions should be about the services the council provide or issues which the council is involved in that affect the community.

The purpose of the petition and what result it is expected to achieve should be clearly explained.

Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Resources, Jackie Taylor, said: “We recognise that part of being an open and transparent council is giving people the opportunity to engage with us directly.

“The petitions process, and ultimately the Petitions Committee, gives people that opportunity.”

A number of changes as to how the Petitions Committee will function moving forward was agreed at a recent meeting of the Executive Committee.
