• Doctor Sooj, who has over 305,000 followers, explained that many patients struggle with chronic coughs when antibiotics aren’t working. The board-certified medic shared his insights in a video with his account gaining almost nine million likes.
• The first culprit could be blood pressure medication. “There’s a class of drugs called ace inhibitors. Examples are ramipril, lisinopril, perindopril, captopril. And all of these are used to treat high blood pressure.”
• Asthma emerged as the second common cause, with the doctor revealing a startling statistic. “Interestingly, around one in four people with a chronic cough will have asthma, and treatment is very straightforward”, he said.
• Whooping cough was identified as the third potential cause. Doctor Sooj stressed that early intervention with antibiotics can help whooping cough patients, but later cases require supportive care.
