Greenisland Train Station recap as emergency services attend incident

Emergency services were in attendance at an “incident” at a Co Antrim train station this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Greenisland Train Station shortly before 10am on Tuesday, September 15 due to an incident involving a “trapped casualty.”

Police, the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, the Air Ambulance, and the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service were in attendance.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police attended a report of a concern for safety in the Station Road area of Greenisland this morning, Tuesday, 15th September. A person was brought to safety and taken to hospital for treatment following the incident.”

Translink confirmed the train line has now reopened after being closed between Larne and Belfast for a time.

A spokesperson for Translink said: “We can confirm an incident occurred around 9.45am today (September 15) at Greenisland Train Station.

“Emergency services were called to the scene. The railway line reopened at 11.00am and normal services are operating.”

The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service were called to the scene at 9.59am, with 1 Appliance from Carrickfergus Fire Station, 1 Appliance from Glengormley Fire Station, 1 Appliance from Ballyclare Fire Station, and 2 Specialist Rescue Teams attending the incident.

A spokesperson for the NIFRS said: “Firefighters were called to reports of a trapped casualty on Station Road, Greenisland, Carrickfergus, Antrim. Firefighters assisted NIAS with the rescue of the casualty using manual handling techniques. The scene was handed over to the PSNI and Firefighters left the scene at 10.41am.”
