Guisborough woman fined for dropping cigarette in Durham
Nikita Henderson, of Venable Road, Guisborough, was found guilty under the Single Justice Procedure at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on July 14.
The court heard Henderson deposited a cigarette on the ground at North Road, Durham bus station, on February 28.
This was in breached of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, which makes it an offence to throw down, drop, or leave litter in public spaces.
Henderson, who did not attend court, was ordered to pay a £220 fine.
The court also imposed an £88 surcharge to fund victim services and £204 in costs.
A collection order was made for the total amount of £512, with payment due by August 11.
Court documents confirmed the case was proved in Henderson’s absence.
