Masked men armed with a hammer and a knife gained entry to a home in Glenrothes in a horrifying incident over the weekend.
Masked men armed with a hammer and knife terrified a homeowner in Fife in the early hours of Sunday, reportedly gaining entry to his property in a midnight heist. Footage captured on a doorbell camera shows the moment the men arrived home in Collydean, Glenrothes.
In the chilling footage, the first man wearing a baseball cap with his face covered walks up to the door. A second man then appears wearing what looks like a medical face mask.
A third man can briefly be seen in the background. The first man then realises the camera is there and eerily stares down the lense before the second man puts a gloved hand up to cover it.
It is understood a watch and money were stolen during the course of the incident and Police Scotland has been contacted for comment. It comes after a number of similar incidents in recent months.
Shortly before Christmas, two men in balaclavas forced their way into a home in Gartcosh. Masked thugs were armed with a blade as they targeted a property on Greenhill Avenue.
Detectives are also investigating after jewellery and money was stolen from a home in Kilmarnock last month. An ‘unkempt’ robber with missing teeth is one of two men police were searching for after they forced entry to the property on Cromdale Road, terrifying the owners.
A property on Kelso Street in Yoker, Glasgow, was also targeted last year. While no details of what was stolen were provided by police, one person was assaulted and a CCTV image released of a man who detectives were looking to speak to.
As well as homes being targeted, shops and business premises have also fallen victim to such incidents including one shop in Glasgow which has been robbed more than 100 times. Mohammad Sheikh says he has lost £20,000 in a year as a result of incidents at his 24-hour store in Glasgow city centre.
Last year, a teenager was jailed for threatening staff with a broken bottle in a horrifying ordeal at the Gothenburg convenience store in Whitburn. Goawech Chan, 18, was fought off by brave shop assistant Margaret Aitken, 65 during the incident.
