Hampshire Flag Company partners with Portsmouth Pride to sponsor Pride of Portsmouth lion sculpture

Hampshire Flag Company has joined forces with Portsmouth Pride to co-sponsor a lion sculpture in the Pride of Portsmouth Trail. Titled ‘One Hundred Voices: A Portsmouth Patchwork’, the design by Angela Chick celebrates the city’s expansive LGBTQ+ community. It is also a powerful reminder of the diversity that shapes the coastal city today – a city in the running to become UK City of Culture 2029. 
 
Angela worked closely with Portsmouth Pride to gather a wide range of memories and anecdotes from LGBTQ+ individuals, each providing a personal insight into their time in the city over the years. Through live and online engagement, 100 unique perspectives were collected and displayed on the lion. The result is a beautiful collection of everything that makes Portsmouth a special place to so many – 100 voices for 100 years of city status. 
 
The Portsmouth Pride team work tirelessly to ensure Portsmouth is a truly inclusive city where everyone is welcome and residents are proud to call it home. Their annual Pride event draws thousands of people from across the region, but their mission isn’t siloed to that one day. They strive to ensure that every friendship, celebration and safe space formed in the LGBTQ+ community lasts all year round. The lion is a symbol of that commitment. 
 
A key supplier of branding in and around Portsmouth, Hampshire Flag Company has been creating eye-catching promotional materials for over 40 years. In that time, they have helped countless local and national brands shine, including Portsmouth Pride. 
 
When Portsmouth was selected to host the country’s official UK Pride event in 2025, Hampshire Flag Company was appointed as the event’s Print Partner, chosen specifically by the Portsmouth Pride team. They helped turn the city into a rainbow of colour, producing everything from flags and deckchairs to large-scale signage. 
 
Following this work, Rod Sessions, Commercial Director at Hampshire Flag Company, built a strong relationship with CP Robinson, Chair and Campaigns Manager at Portsmouth Pride. Speaking of their latest collaboration, CP Robinson says: “We’re very proud to co-sponsor this lion with Hampshire Flag Company, a partner of Portsmouth Pride that does so much to elevate businesses doing good work in the city. The 100 voices captured represent the much larger LGBTQ+ community that makes Portsmouth the vibrant destination it is today. We are delighted to celebrate each and every one of them.” 
 
‘One Hundred Voices: A Portsmouth Patchwork’ can be found in the middle of Gunwharf Quays until Sunday 13 September 2026. It stands tall as a pertinent reminder of the strength that comes from celebrating our differences together.
