Heartbroken dad of Aria Gilford, 5, speaks after inquest
Aria Marie Gilford died from a severe asthma attack on August 9, 2023, and an inquest into her death was held at Bolton Coroner’s Court.
Area coroner Michael Pemberton concluded she died of natural causes, and could not prove neglect, but added this was “not a finding that there was no fault”.
The court heard evidence that Aria’s mum, Jamie-Leigh Kirby, had missed appointments, phone calls and the coroner was “satisfied that regular medications weren’t being provided”.

Aria’s dad, Brandon Gilford, said the week-long inquest was “nothing short of distressing and absolutely horrible”.
After the conclusion on Thursday (January 29), he spoke out and said the proceedings have finally given him answers.
Brandon said: “This week has been nothing short of distressing and absolutely horrible.
“For over two years, I’ve required answers and this week has provided exactly that.
“In the end, she was let down by poor judgement and even poorer decisions and I think I’ll struggle to get past that.
“Aria was the most beautiful, loving, courageous and gentle soul.
“I hope people can now realise the seriousness of asthma and that people should not take signs for granted.
“You sleep tight now my darling girl, one day we will meet again – lots of love, daddy.”
