Those investigations did not uncover any evidence of widespread fraud to change the outcome of a race that Trump lost, and the affidavit itself provides no additional evidence to support a claim of fraud, even noting that “many allegations” have already been “disproven.”
“After more than five years, dozens of court cases, and over a year in total control of the federal government, this is all they’ve got?” said elections law expert David Becker, director of the Center for Election Innovation & Research.
“If taken at its word, this entire affidavit at most alleges human error after a late night during a global pandemic, all of which had no impact on the outcome of the race,” he said.

Here is what’s inside the document.
The document supporting the FBI’s raid of an elections office in Georgia echoes years-long allegations about the 2020 election that were previously debunked after state investigations (AP)
Election deniers lead investigation
The criminal investigation into allegations of fraud and the destruction of records was prompted by former Trump campaign attorney Kurt Olsen with support from witnesses who have promoted debunked conspiracy theories about election administration and the outcome of the 2020 race.

While the search warrant was executed in Georgia, the federal prosecutor whose name is on the document is Thomas Albus, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri.
Albus, a Trump appointee who was tapped by Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate elections, is among a fleet of newly hired government lawyers who boosted false claims about the 2020 election or were directly involved with litigation to overturn the results.
The affidavit then notes that the criminal probe “originated from a referral sent by Kurt Olsen, Presidentially appointed Director of Election Security and Integrity.”
Olsen worked closely with Trump’s campaign in 2020 to challenge election results as part of a “Stop the Steal” movement that was largely rejected by courts across the country.

He was later sanctioned by a federal judge for “false, misleading and unsupported factual assertions” in support of Republican Kari Lake’s unsuccessful attempt to overturn her loss in the 2020 race for Arizona governor.
Olsen also spoke with Trump on January 6 as a mob of the president’s supporters stormed the Capitol and breached the halls of Congress.
Deputy FBI director Andrew Bailey, the former attorney general of Missouri who publicly endorsed the president’s false narrative that the election was stolen, joined agents during the Georgia raid.

The FBI also called on Clay Parikh, who had joined Lake’s failed effort to reverse her loss in the Arizona governor’s race.
He is now a special government employee in the Trump administration, and the FBI relied on his analysis of Fulton County’s results to pursue the investigation, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit also lists several witnesses whose names are redacted, though descriptions of their allegations and activities match those from State Election Board members and other figures who denied the results of the 2020 election and promoted conspiracy theories about the vote count.

FBI alleges ‘deficiencies or defects’ that were previously debunked
The document states that the investigation involves two statutes — one concerning the destruction of election records and another that makes it a crime to “knowingly and willfully deprive” residents of a “fair and impartially conducted election process.”
Election law experts say the rest of the document provides no evidence to support a claim of fraud; Georgia’s ballots were counted three times, three different ways, following the election and challenges withstood scrutiny each time.
The FBI is instead investigating five alleged “deficiencies or defects” from those recounts, according to the affidavit.
Those allegations include missing images of ballots, ballots that were scanned multiple times, inconsistent vote counts from a hand recount, ballots that could have been improperly added, and changing vote totals during a machine recount.
Only one of those allegations — that ballots may have been scanned twice during a Trump-requested recount — had previously been “partially substantiated” by law enforcement officials, who have repeatedly affirmed Trump’s loss in the state.
Election workers and officials in Georgia came under severe scrutiny during the 2020 election, with activists and Trump allies alleging widespread fraud (Getty Images)
One allegation alleges “inconsistent” ballot tallies during a Risk Limiting Audit, which Georgia’s secretary of state addressed in 2022. In its report, the office noted that the audit is designed to confirm a winner, not deliver a precise count of more than 5 million ballots, which “is impossible.”
“Human counting will always produce errors,” the report said. “These differences are well within the expected variances in a computer count vs. a hand count and further support the overall conclusion of the hand audit — that the initial reported result in the presidential contest in Georgia was correct.”
The FBI also notes that there were ballots “that had never been creased or folded,” which could happen for a number of reasons, including damaged ballots that cannot be read electronically and must be duplicated, or certain overseas and military ballots that cannot fit into scanners.
In 2023, the secretary of state’s office determined that “investigators could not substantiate the allegations of ‘pristine’ ballots being counted during the risk-limiting audit.”
“This affidavit was much weaker than I suspected — no allegations of intent, no allegations of election theft, no allegations of foreign interference, and no allegations that the statute of limitations doesn’t apply,” according to Becker, the elections law expert.

What about the statute of limitations?
One of the crimes cited by the affidavit requires election officials to keep records for 22 months after an election, so the statute of limitations would expire five years after that.
The 2020 election falls well outside of that five-year window, and the affidavit concerns activities that happened in the immediate aftermath of that contest, not in the two years that followed.
And while it is technically possible that election officials could have disposed of those records within that time, the affidavit does not provide any allegations that they did.
“That raises serious questions about probable cause for the investigation and why such an intrusive action is being taken more than five years after the election was certified,” according to Michael McNulty, policy director with Issue One.
“This raid fits a growing pattern by the administration to exert executive control over elections, despite the Constitution’s clear assignment of election administration to the states and Congress,” he added. “Targeting election officials and records years later risks undermining confidence in the process for future elections. If allowed to stand, this could set a troubling precedent that would chill election administration nationwide and invite more executive interference.”
June, 37, who is originally from the Isle of Arran, was found dismembered in her apartment in Los Angeles, California, on September 11 last year. Her husband Jonathan Renteria, 25, was charged with her murder four days later.
Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office revealed yesterday Renteria has been indicted on one count each of murder and mutilation/disinterment of human remains, along with a new count of misdemeanor child abuse.
Authorities allege Renteria killed June, who had moved to the US to work as a lawyer. She was last seen alive on September 4.
The following day, Renteria was seen on his way to drop off the couple’s one-month-old child at his parents’ house while carrying trash bags filled with unknown contents.
Renteria — who was later found in a nearby hotel room suffering from a bloody arm injury — allegedly confessed to killing his wife during an argument in their Franklin Avenue apartment about her weight.
He was ordered to remain behind bars without bail and will appear at a Los Angeles courthouse on June 2 for a pretrial hearing, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
June set up a paralegal service after she moved to LA – but her ultimate aim was to pass the US bar exam so she could practise law in California. Shortly after she started her relationship with Renteria, June filed a restraining order against him citing domestic violence. That claim was later dropped.
Officers discovered June’s torso with missing limbs. The autopsy says the cause of death was traumatic neck injuries and that June suffered approximately 10 “sharp force injuries.”
Her family have since launched a fundraising bid to cover a legal fight to bring her baby to Scotland.
June’s daughter Regina remains in the US with Renteria’s parents. Her family have launched a custody battle to bring her baby home to Scotland but need £40,000 to foot the legal costs.
June’s mother Jill, who still lives on Arran, previously said she wants the details about what happened to her daughter in the public domain. She visits June’s grave in Arran nearly every day and says she finds comfort speaking to her daughter.
Paying tribute, she said she wants her daughter to be remembered as “very beautiful, very intelligent, very funny, humorous, crazy, kind, loving, passionate”.
Jill added: “I know we’re never going to get her back, ever, but I just need to know what happened to her. June deserved better. Way better.”

The attacks came five weeks after U.S. and Israeli strikes first pounded Iran, with Trump saying earlier this week that Tehran’s “ability to launch missiles and drones is dramatically curtailed.”
Iran shot down a U.S. F15-E Strike Eagle fighter jet Friday, with one service member getting rescued and the search still underway for a second, U.S. officials say. Iranian state media also said a U.S. A-10 attack aircraft crashed after being hit by Iranian defense forces.
The last time a U.S. fighter jet was shot down in combat was an A-10 Thunderbolt II during the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq, said retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Houston Cantwell, a former F-16 fighter pilot.
But, he said, that’s because the U.S. had largely been fighting insurgents who didn’t have the same anti-aircraft capabilities. The fact that there have not been more fighter jets lost in Iran, Cantwell said, is a testament to the capabilities of U.S. forces.
“The fact that this hasn’t happened until now is an absolute miracle,” said Cantwell, who served four combat tours and is now a senior resident fellow at the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies. “We’re flying combat missions here, they are being shot at every day.”
Shoulder-fired missile likely used, experts say
U.S. Central Command said in a statement Wednesday that American forces have flown more than 13,000 missions in the Iran war while striking more than 12,300 targets.
After more than a month of punishing U.S.-Israeli airstrikes, a degraded Iranian military nonetheless remains a stubborn foe. Its steady stream of strikes against Israel and Gulf Arab neighbors have been causing regional upheaval and global economic shock.
When it comes to American dominance over Iran’s airspace, there’s still a distinction between air superiority and air supremacy, said Behnam Ben Taleblu, Iran program senior director at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a hawkish Washington think tank.
“A disabled air defense system is not a destroyed air defense system,” he said. “We shouldn’t be shocked that they’re still fighting.”
American planes have been flying missions at lower altitudes, which makes them more vulnerable to Iran’s missiles, Taleblu said. It’s possible that Iran fired at the F-15 with a surface-to-air missile, but it’s more likely that a portable, shoulder-fired missile was used, he said. Those are much harder to detect and reflect how Iran is “weak but still lethal.”
“This is a regime that is fighting for its life,” he said.
Mark Cancian, a retired Marine colonel and a senior defense adviser with the Center for Strategic and International Studies, agreed that a shoulder-fired missile was likely used against the fighter jet.
Nonetheless, the American air war against Iran has been a “tremendous success” so far, he said.
To put things in perspective, he said the loss rate for American warplanes flying over Germany during World War II was 3% at one point, which would equal about 350 warplanes in the U.S. war against Iran.
“But then there’s the political side — you have a American public that is accustomed to fighting bloodless wars,” Cancian said. “Then a large part of the country doesn’t support the war. So to them, any loss is unacceptable.”

Pilots are trained on what to do if their plane is hit
The last U.S. jet shot down in combat was struck by an Iraqi surface-to-air missile over Baghdad on April 8, 2003. The pilot safely ejected and was rescued, according to the Air Force.
In high-threat environments like missions over Iran, Cantwell, the retired general, said an aviator’s blood pressure goes up and they become highly alert to incoming missiles. Those are typically either infrared- or radar-guided missiles, he said, requiring different evasive tactics.
If they are hit and need to eject from their aircraft, they are trained on what to do next, he said.
Pilots learn to check for wounds after a violent ejection and the shock of a missile explosion and, most crucially, how they are going to communicate their location so rescuers can find them.
At the same time, he said, the enemy is likely working to intercept the communications or even spoof the location.
Helicopters are more at risk than other aircraft
The planes that went down Friday were not the first crewed American aircraft to be lost overall in Iran.
A military helicopter and airplane exploded in 1980 during an aborted mission to rescue several dozen American hostages at the U.S. embassy in Tehran, according to the Air Force Historical Support Division.
After a series of setbacks, including severe dust storms and mechanical failures, the mission was called off. As the aircraft took off, the rotor blades of one of the RH-53 helicopters collided with an EC-130 aircraft full of fuel and both exploded, killing eight.
More U.S. helicopters have been shot down in recent decades, including a MH-47 Army Chinook helicopter that was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade in Afghanistan in 2005, killing 16. Helicopters are more dangerous because “the lower and the slower, the more susceptible you are,” Cantwell said.
That’s why those who went out on this week’s rescue missions, likely in helicopters, he said, did “such a brave and honorable act.”
What is the Liverpool team news and latest on Salah?
Slot confirmed on Friday that first-choice keeper Alisson is likely to be sidelined for several weeks with a muscle problem, with Giorgi Mamardashvili to replace him, and Jeremie Frimpong is a doubt due to injury. But Alexander Isak could make his first appearance since breaking his leg in December and Mohamed Salah is fit and available.
Possible line-up: Mamardashvili; Szoboszlai, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Ekitike

What is the Manchester City team news?
Man City will be without the injured Josko Gvardiol, and John Stones and Ruben Dias are set to be assessed before the game. Marc Guehi was ineligible for the Carabao Cup final but is available and expected to start, while James Trafford is expected to be favoured between the sticks ahead of Gianluigi Donnarumma, as he was in the Carabao Cup final.
Mohamed Salah set to begin his Liverpool farewell tour – but is he fit?
After nine years, 435 appearances and 255 goals, Mohamed Salah will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. The 33-year-old made the announcement during the international break after Liverpool agreed to cancel his two-year contract signed after the Reds were crowned Premier League champions.
Salah was unable to join up with Egypt over the international break – having also missed Liverpool’s trip to Brighton due to a muscle injury picked up in the Champions League victory over Galatasaray – but Liverpool are hopeful that he could be fit to begin his farewell tour at the Etihad. Salah will be determined to finish his final season at Liverpool with a trophy, either in the FA Cup or Champions League.

Manchester City get a taste for silverware
Pep Guardiola became the first manager in English League Cup history to lift the trophy five times as Manchester City defeated Arsenal 2-0 to win the Carabao Cup final at Wembley in a victory that could have also landed a blow in the title race.
City will begin to try to hunt Arsenal down after ending what was an unprecedented quadruple bid for the Gunners, while progress this weekend could set up another clash with Mikel Arteta’s side if they are drawn together in the FA Cup semi-finals.

A defining fortnight for Liverpool
With an FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City and a Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain to come this fortnight, it’s fair Liverpool’s season could come down to this upcoming stretch of games.
Defeat today followed by a Champions League exit to the holders later in the month would increase the pressure on Arne Slot, leaving the Premier League champions battling for a top-five finish to salvage anything from their campaign. That may not be good enough, either, given Liverpool’s investment at the start of the season.

Hello and welcome
Manchester City and Liverpool renew their rivalry in a FA Cup quarter-final that could be defining for both as we enter the decisive stretch of the season.
Pep Guardiola’s side will want more silverware after beating Arsenal to win the Carabao Cup and they would take a big step closer to a domestic treble if they get past the Reds today.
But it’s arguably a bigger test for Liverpool and the under-fire Arne Slot, with the Reds out of the title race picture and their hopes of winning silverware down to the FA Cup and Champions League.
Arsenal travel to Southampton tonight in the FA Cup quarter-finals, looking to bounce back from their quadruple dreams being dashed.
Arsenal will have to guard against complacency when they face the Saints as the form of Tonda Eckert’s side, who are unbeaten since January, suggest a surprise could be on the cards.
Southampton, meanwhile, overcame Premier League opposition in Fulham at Craven Cottage in one of the shock results from round five as Ross Stewart scored a 91st minute penalty.

Southampton vs Arsenal prediction

This will be a lot trickier than many expect as Southampton are in very good form and have nothing to lose which makes them a dangerous opponent.
However, with a Championship play-off spot very much achievable, perhaps the Saints my prioritise promotion back to the Premier League over a cup semi-final.
Arsenal, though, should have enough to overcome Southampton and continue their quest for trophies. We expect the visitors to get the job done and rather comfortably.

Armed officers assigned to protect the Mayor of London reportedly left multiple guns and ammunition outside of his south London residence (Picture: James Veysey/Shutterstock)
Five police officers have been taken off duty after a bag of guns was found outside Sadiq Khan’s home.
Armed officers assigned to protect the Mayor of London reportedly left multiple guns and ammunition outside of his south London residence.
The bag contained an MP5 semi-automatic Heckler & Koch carbine, a Glock pistol, a Taser, and various rounds of ammunition.
They were discovered by member of the public Jordan Griffiths.

He told The Sun: ‘I could not believe my eyes and took some pictures as proof of what we had found.
‘I called the police and told them what I had found and within a few minutes they turned up to collect the guns.
‘When they arrived they were really shocked. They looked through the bag carefully and hurriedly took them away.
‘I was told they had been left there by one of Sadiq Khan’s security officers, which made sense as he lives here.’

The Metropolitan Police said: ‘At around 9.40pm, a member of the public called police after finding a bag containing Met-issued firearms and a Taser on a street in south London.
‘Within seven minutes of the call to police, officers arrived at the scene and safely recovered the items.
‘We are urgently reviewing the circumstances of this incident and recognise the concern it may cause.
‘At this stage it is believed the bag was misplaced by on-duty officers a short time before the member of the public located it.

However, it appears that Brooklyn’s love of cooking, who often posts video of his creations on social media, has started to rub off on Cruz.
Posting a video on Friday, Cruz cooked his girlfriend Jackie Apostel pancakes for breakfast, just days after Brooklyn’s wife Nicola Peltz said she loves the sweet treat.
Writing on the caption, Cruz said: ‘She wants crepe, she got em’, as he filmed himself making the batter before adding Nutella.

This comes after Cruz appeared to come for his brother with a ‘passive-aggressive’ cooking video earlier this month.

Previously, at the height of rumours of a family feud, musician Cruz responded to a TikTok comment asking: ‘Are you going to stick with this job or going to become a race car driver next or something?’
Throwing some serious shade in former aspiring footballer/model/photographer Brooklyn’s direction, Cruz replied: ‘Wrong brother mate’.
But now, he’s taken things up a notch by creating his own cooking content ‘wanna see the best cooking video ever ?👌 don’t watch this then’, he quipped in his TikTok caption as he shared a montage of clips from making a ‘cheesy potato soup’.
With Dolce Nonna playing in the background, the youngest Beckham boy chopped up his ingredients and combined them to make the dish, serving the soup in a bowl with seasoning.

Joking that, ‘as gross as it looks, it’s actually decent’, Cruz flashed the camera a thumbs up after the meal was ready to eat.
Naturally, it didn’t take long for people to sense a hidden motive behind his social media content.
‘This is so passive aggressive. I love it!!’, commented @suzanneevans76.

Despite Brooklyn insisting he has no desire to reconcile with his family, having accused his parents of ‘controlling’ him and ‘disrespecting’ wife Nicola Peltz, 31, Cruz still wished him a happy birthday earlier this month.

Stepping out in Paris, France, with his girlfriend, Jackie Apostel, 30, Cruz was asked by a TMZ videographer: ‘Any well wishes to your brother? It’s his birthday,’ to which he replied, ‘Happy birthday,’ with a smile.
Cruz dipped his head and stayed silent when asked if he’d had any contact with Brooklyn lately, before the reporter probed: ‘Any chance you guys will repair the relationship? Are you hopeful for that?’
‘Hopefully,’ Cruz said back, wishing the journalist a ‘lovely day’ before walking away.

Man City vs Liverpool prediction
Prior to beating Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final, Man City had won just once in five games in all competitions – that being in the last round of the FA Cup – so Guardiola’s side aren’t exactly in flying form.
That said, Liverpool have equally been a mixed bag aside from the 4-0 win over Galatasaray in the Champions League last-16 second leg and the Wolves cup tie.
It is a difficult one to call as both teams will be eyeing a trophy. We think home advantage tips things in Man City’s favour, but only just.
Head to head (h2h) history and results
The Reds, though, did emerge victorious in the most recent FA Cup clash between the teams back in April 2022.
