If you’re struggling to remove watermarks and grime from your shower glass, there’s one simple and affordable cleaning hack that will have it looking like new in no time
Keeping your home spotless and organised is not easy. Each day brings an endless list of household duties that require attention, and inevitably, certain jobs get relegated to the bottom of the priority list.
For me, it’s my shower screen. I’ll give it a swift wipe when I’m cleaning the bathroom, but it’ll often go without a deep clean for months on end.
It’s one of those tasks that is so blatantly obvious you’ve forgotten to do as soon as you enter the bathroom, and when it’s sunny like it’s been recently, it’s even more highlighted.
But last year, I discovered that you only need one simple and cheap kitchen item to tackle the job of removing shower glass grime, and it’s not a squeegee.
Previously, my favourite shower cleaning method was to simply spray a bit of glass cleaner directly on there, allow it to sit for a while, then wipe it away with a sheet of kitchen roll.
Not the most environmentally conscious approach, but it was swift and did the job.
Nevertheless, I came across a TikTok clip which recommended using a soft, spongy kitchen pad instead, with a squirt of washing up liquid for that extra sparkle. With several of these lying around in my cleaning cupboard, I decided to give it a go.
For some reason, I’d never considered using one of these sponge pads for cleaning glass before. I always presumed they’d just create too many fresh streaks or spread remaining dust all over the surface, making it appear worse than it did before.
However, I squirted some washing up liquid onto the softer side of the pad – steering clear of the rougher side, as this could potentially scratch the glass – and started to work it across the glass in sweeping circular motions.
The glass was especially foggy and grimy near the bottom, so I made sure to give this section extra attention.
The marks appeared to lift off instantly, delivering better results than any glass or window cleaner I’d used before. I then rinsed and squeezed out the cloth before going through the entire process once more, but it only took me around five minutes.
At this stage, the glass looked brilliant, although still with a few water smears, so I grabbed a completely clean pad and used the soft side again to buff away any lingering marks. The end result was glass so clear that it’s even hard to see where it starts and finishes in the photos.
The sponge pads gave the glass a much deeper clean, and they’re incredibly affordable too. You can pick up a pack of three for £6.99 from Amazon, or even cheaper from the likes of B&M and Home Bargains.
