Major fire at historic mill used in Peaky Blinders and Downton Abbey filming

A large fire has broken out at Dalton Mills, a historic textile mill that has been used as a film set

Emergency crews are tackling a huge fire at a historic Yorkshire textile mill this evening (Saturday). Flames engulfed Dalton Mills on Dalton Lane, Keighley, with the alarm raised at approximately 8pm.

West Yorkshire Police alongside multiple fire engines from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue are working to control the inferno, YorkshireLive reports. Emergency cordons have been established, with Dalton Lane shut to all vehicles.

The 150-year-old mill structure has previously served as a filming location for Peaky Blinders and Downton Abbey.

West Yorkshire Police shared on Facebook: “Please be aware that Dalton Mills are currently on fire. Dalton Lane in Keighley is currently closed to all traffic, as our colleagues from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are working to bring the situation under control.

“We advise people to stay away from the area, and residents in the vicinity to keep all doors and windows closed.”

Reports indicate the premises has been hit by multiple fires during the past four years. Over 100 firefighters tackled a major blaze in March 2022.

A further significant fire erupted at the mill in July 2025, requiring 12 fire appliances to attend. The location was also ravaged by a devastating fire back in 2011.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service issued a statement confirming: “At approximately 8:00pm, we were called to a large fire involving Dalton Mills, Keighley. We currently have 12 fire engines at the incident as firefighters continue to tackle the large incident.

“Please avoid the area while emergency crews work at the scene. Residents nearby are advised to keep their windows and doors closed until further notice.

“Thank you for your cooperation. Further incident updates to follow.”
