Shoppers on social media say they are “so excited.”

Glasgow is set for another exciting opening on the high street. It comes amid a flurry of new additions recently announced for the city over the next few months.

Among them will be The Works, which is soon set to arrive in a major shopping centre. The stationary chain holds a significant presence across the UK, operating more than 500 stores, with over 20 located in Scotland.

It is now set to open a brand new site at The Fort at the start of next week on Monday, April 28. The shopping centre confirmed on its social media channels that shoppers will find it located between Fort News and Greggs.

Once opened, it will mark the sixth The Works store in Glasgow. The discount retail giant also operates in other major locations including Sauchiehall Street, while also being available in busy shopping centres Silverburn and the St Enoch Centre.

While no further store information has been revealed, The Works is known for selling an assortment of books, stationary, craft materials, toys and games. It also stocks a range of brands including Hello Kitty, Stitch, Peppa Pig and Squishmallows.

News of the opening in Glasgow’s Fort has gone down a treat with locals after the shopping centre shared the news on Facebook, writing: “Coming Soon to Glasgow Fort!

“We’re so excited to announce that The Works will be opening their doors on 27th April. Find them between Fort News and Greggs.”

Excited shoppers were quick to voice their enthusiasm at the upcoming addition to the shopping destination, as one wrote: “When I say I have been waiting on this day.”

A second delighted shopper wrote: “Can’t wait!! Asda, Waterstones, TK MAXX and now The Works. All the places I buy my books in one place!!!” And another wrote: “So excited.”

It comes just after The Works recently opened up another Scottish store in Dundee, with the stationary giant now available in the Overgate Shopping Centre, marking its second in the city alongside its Wellgate branch.

The shop, which opened on March 25, can be found in the former Bodycare unit that is in between tech firm Vodafone and Fashion chain Mango. Spanning 1,819 sq. ft, it offers a range of great-value products across four ‘zones.’

Both Glasgow’s and Dundee’s openings for the retailer come after it officially closed down its website for online shopping in March, with the brand choosing to move its focus to in-store shopping.

The online channel is now only available to showcase what is available in stores, alongside to check local opening hours. Bosses advised that the move allows the retailer to “invest more in great value, great service and to open new stores in more communities.”

It’s not the only exciting opening announced for Glasgow, as we recently reported that both US homeware brands Pottery Barn and West Elm will be available as concessions in the John Lewis store located in Buchanan Galleries.

While no opening date has yet been confirmed, owner Williams-Sonoma, Inc confirmed that the Scottish location has been selected as part of its expansion, coming less than a year after it made its UK debut with the launch of its website in late 2025.
