Man arrested after ‘attempted robbery’ at Shell Middlesbrough garage

The incident happened just after 4.15am today (Friday, January 30) at Shell garage on Ladgate Lane, Middlesbrough.

It was reported that a suspect was armed with a weapon and had threatened a member of staff before making off from the scene. There were no reports of any injuries.

Officers were dispatched to the area and enquiries led them to an address in Coulby Newham, where a 41-year-old man was arrested and a BB gun was recovered.

The man faces questioning on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, robbery, affray, drink driving and drug driving.

Enquiries by Middlesbrough CID are ongoing.
