Man dead and woman airlifted to hospital following horror Co Cavan crash

One person has died and two others have been injured following a horror collision earlier today.

The smash between a van and a car took place on the N3 at Drummallaght in Co Cavan shortly before 2pm on Monday, the Irish Mirror reports.

The driver of the car, who was a man in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was then removed to Cavan General Hospital.

Meanwhile, a woman, who was a passenger in the car and also in her 60s, was seriously injured. She was then airlifted to Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital.

The driver of the van, a man in his 50s, was taken to Cavan General Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The road has been closed to facilitate an examination by Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

In a statement, gardai said they are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or was travelling on the N3 between Virginia and Cavan, particularly between 1pm and 2pm to come forward.

“Gardaí are particularly appealing to motorists who may have dashcam or other camera footage of the area during this time to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.”
