A pedestrian has tragically lost his life following a fatal road traffic collision involving a van.
The collision occurred near Luke’s Bridge, Gortnaleck, Grange, Co. Sligo at approximately 3.55pm on Saturday afternoon, August 29.
The pedestrian, a man aged in his 40s who was the owner of the van, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gardai and emergency services attended the scene and the man’s body has since been removed to the local mortuary where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. The coroner has been notified.
The road was closed for a time to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out a technical examination, which has since been completed and the road has reopened.
Gardai are continuing to investigate the fatal collision and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
A garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred near Luke’s Bridge, Gortnaleck, Grange, Co. Sligo on Saturday 29th August 2026.
“The collision occurred at approximately 3:55pm and involved a van and a pedestrian, the owner of the vehicle.
“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward.
“Road users who were travelling in the vicinity of Luke’s Bridge, Gortnaleck, Grange, Co. Sligo between 3:30pm and 4:00pm on Saturday 29th August 2026 and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Sligo Garda Station on (071) 915 7000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
