Aer Lingus cancels Manchester Airport flights to New York

Manchester Airport said passengers should check their flight status directly with their airline before travelling to the airport.

Only travel to the airport if an airline has confirmed the flight is operating.

Manchester Airport said via social media: “Following today’s NATS air traffic control issue, flight disruption is expected to continue for the rest of the day while airlines recover their schedules.

“Before travelling to the airport, please check your flight status directly with your airline. Only travel to the airport if your airline has confirmed that your flight is operating.

“We’ll share further updates when available. Thank you for your patience.”

Airlines are recovering schedules following the issue affecting NATS’ air traffic control service.

It had earlier warned at 3.15pm that delays could affect some departing flights.

The disruption began after NATS, the National Air Traffic Services, reported a technical issue.

NATS provides air traffic control services to 15 UK airports, and departures at multiple airports were affected.

Arrivals at Heathrow were not currently affected, according to information provided by the airport.

A NATS spokesperson said: “We are investigating a technical issue which is causing some disruption to flight departures.

“Our engineers are on site and we will provide an update as soon as we can.”

NATS apologised for delays and advised passengers to check with their airline.

Manchester Airport’s advice applied to passengers booked to depart from the site.

Passengers with flights booked from Manchester should contact their airline before setting off, they should not travel to the airport unless their airline confirms operation.

Airlines may be working through revised schedules, meaning flight times can change.

The airport has not said how many Manchester flights are affected.

Passengers are advised to keep checking airline websites and messages for updates.

Other UK airports, including Heathrow, also reported disruption to departures; Jersey Airport and Belfast City Airport warned of possible disruption.

Ivanka Trump draws ire over beach horseback riding video: ‘Let them eat cake’

Ivanka Trump faced a wave of online criticism after sharing a horseback-riding video that many viewers dismissed as out of touch with everyday Americans.

The clip, posted Monday on X and Instagram, shows a woman galloping along a beach at sunset, set to Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida,” a song about a fallen king.

It was unclear whether Ivanka Trump was the rider, but the post quickly went viral, racking up more than 15 million views on X alone. Although comments were restricted, users across the political spectrum quoted the post to voice their displeasure.

Many pointed to rising living costs across the U.S., contrasting them with the carefree lifestyle on display in the clip.

“Americans: We can’t afford gas, food or tuition,” GOP podcaster Melissa Witte wrote. “Trump Family: here’s a video of Kai’s luxury dorm, Ivanka riding a horse and we’re also gonna rename both New Mexico and Lake Ontario ‘America.’”

California Governor Gavin Newsom and MAGA journalist Eric Spracklen both highlighted that gasoline has surged in cost amid the ongoing Iran war.

“Real ‘Let them eat cake’ energy here,” wrote another user, while yet another questioned: “Is she racing to her nuclear bunker?”

“She turned off the replies. Of course she did. The corrupt Trump family is so out of touch with ordinary Americans,” the X account Republicans Against Trump added.

Trump has long faced accusations that he and his family have profited off the presidency. In his first year back in office, his personal income soared to $2.2 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal. “I’m profiting because the stock market is going up. Everybody is profiting,” the 80-year-old president told reporters in July.

Compared to her father’s first term, Ivanka Trump has largely shied away from politics. She and her husband, Jared Kushner, recently paid $1.4 billion for an island off Albania, which they plan to turn into a luxury resort. However, the island turned out to be a nature preserve and the announcement of the American couple’s plans to develop it into a commercial venture led to weeks of nationwide protests in Albania.

In response to the horse-riding video, other users pointed to an August investigation by The New York Times, which reported that, under the Trump administration, wild horses are being slaughtered.

The outlet found that the Bureau of Land Management is “quietly” selling off thousands of horses to buyers for cheap, which can then be processed and sold overseas.

“Your dad is selling wild horses on federal land and shipping them off to be slaughtered,” wrote Headquarters, an X account formerly associated with former Vice President Kamala Harris.

Not all of the comments were negative, though.

“Why is this pissing off liberals?” wrote one user. Have they never been on vacation in the Caribbean?…I don’t get it. Are we not supposed to enjoy life?”

A spokesperson for France’s Atlantic Maritime Prefecture confirmed to WalesOnline that the vessel arrived from Cherbourg, France (the French Navy’s third-largest port), and is operating under the command of the Atlantic Zone.

The patrol boat’s mission is to monitor illegal fishing and enforce compliance with fishing regulations in French and international waters. Never miss a Cardiff story by signing up to our daily newsletter here

The vessel made a stopover in Cardiff as part of its transit and is currently off the coast of Cardiff in British waters. The stopover is not part of its fishing enforcement mission in the UK.

What Brazil’s supercentenarians can teach us about living to 120

What Brazil’s supercentenarians can teach us about living to 120

While tech-moguls pour billions into trying to live longer, the answer might well be in the simple life

It’s 8am on Rio de Janeiro’s Ipanema beach, and another day in the ‘Marvellous City’ is stirring.

The Atlantic pounds in steady, hypnotic bursts as the early birds gather to strut their stuff before the tourists descend. I can see a few vendors sleepily setting up their stalls and hear the whirr of a helicopter overheard – the first of dozens that will swish above the jungle mountains and Christ the Redeemer throughout the day.

I lay down my towel and smile. At the shoreline, a small group of older swimmers gathers, chatting, stretching, laughing as they time their entry between waves.

They are not moving like people nearing the end of life. In Brazil, they might only just be getting started. Because while we tend to look to the ‘Blue Zones’ of Sardinia or Okinawa for longevity lessons, a more chaotic, unequal, exuberant country is quietly producing people who live to 110 and beyond.

Recent demographic research suggests that Brazil may have one of the highest concentrations of supercentenarians in the world – a striking fact in a nation better known for inequality, patchy healthcare and economic and social volatility.

At the same time, in Silicon Valley, billionaires are spending fortunes trying to outwit ageing. Figures like Bryan Johnson subject themselves to extreme regimes – blood testing, supplements, strict diets, tightly controlled sleep – all in pursuit of a longer life. Brazil’s approach could hardly be more different.

Here, people are reaching extraordinary ages through something less engineered, less controlled – and perhaps more revealing. For more than two decades, Prof Mayana Zatz has been studying this phenomenon. At the University of São Paulo, she and her team have assembled a cohort of nearly 200 centenarians, including more than 20 supercentenarians aged over 110.

“We are still collecting, still trying to understand,” she tells me. “But already we see some very interesting patterns.” One is gender. Around 70% of Brazil’s centenarians are women. Another is physical: many of these women are notably small. “All our centenarian women are very short,” Zatz says, laughing. “Which is not good news for me because I am tall!”

It’s even worse news for me – a 6ft 1in Scotsman. But I’m here to pick up some tips on how to double my current age and still be walking the earth. There may be a biological explanation. Smaller bodies, Zatz suggests, may require less energy, undergo fewer cell divisions, and experience less cumulative damage over time.

But beyond that, the story widens –and deepens into Brazil’s past. Modern Brazil is, genetically speaking, one of the most mixed populations on Earth. Following Portuguese colonisation in the 1500s, millions of enslaved Africans were forcibly brought to the country. Over the centuries that followed, waves of immigration arrived from southern Europe – particularly Italy, Spain and Germany – as well as one of the largest Japanese diasporas outside Japan.

The result is a vast, layered genetic mosaic: Indigenous, European, African and Asian ancestry often combined within a single individual.

Zatz believes this may be key. “We think that different populations may carry different protective genetic variants,” she explains. “And in Brazil, people are very admixed. So one person may be lucky enough to inherit several of these protective variants together.”

Around 70% of Brazil’s centenarians are women

In other words, Brazil’s history– however painful and complex –may have inadvertently created a population with unusually rich genetic diversity, increasing the chances of assembling combinations of genes linked to resilience, immune strength and cellular repair.

Her team is now mapping these patterns, analysing ancestry alongside longevity, searching for what she calls “protective genes”. But even here, there is no single blueprint.

Brazil’s longest-lived citizens do not follow strict diets. They do not necessarily avoid alcohol. They are not confined to pristine environments. In fact, many come from remote or deprived regions, where access to modern medicine has historically been limited. “We focus a lot on people who live far from healthcare,” Zatz explains. “Because these are the ones who survived without vaccines, without treatment. They were the strongest from the beginning.”

In rural Brazil, families once had 10 or 12 children, she says – but only a few would survive into adulthood. Those who did may already have been biologically resilient. Add to that a childhood largely free from ultra-processed foods, and a lifetime of physical movement – walking long distances, working with the body – and a picture begins to emerge: not just good genes, but a kind of natural selection shaped by environment.

Those with mixed genetics might benefit from this. Image: Renan Martelli da Rosa

And then there are the individuals themselves. Take Milton, who lived to 108. When Zatz and her team visited him in the capital city Brasília, he greeted them with Brazil’s customary cafezinho –small, strong, sweet coffee. But alongside it, something unexpected.

“He offered us whisky,” Zatz recalls.“And he told us he drinks whisky every morning.” That’s certainly one daily habit I can get behind.

Milton was not just long-lived but mentally formidable. Before his death, he would host birthday gatherings, delivering speeches in which he recalled every guest by name, their age, and how they had featured in his life. “His memory was incredible,” Zatz says.

Then there is Laura, now 107, who only began swimming in her 70s  – and went on to become a champion at 100. She still trains regularly, and, Zatz notes, enjoys a daily caipirinha (a fiery Brazilian cocktail made with cachaça, sugar, lime and ice) with lunch. Asked to explain her vitality, Laura’s answer was disarmingly simple: “My DNA.” She may have a point. Longevity runs strongly in her family: two sisters are over 100, and an aunt reached 110. Zatz’s team is now studying them closely.

People who live far from healthcare are the ones who survived without vaccines, without treatment. They were the strongest from the beginning

Yet not all cases are familial. Only around 20–30% of centenarians in the study have relatives who also reach extreme ages. And many of their habits defy expectations. Another subject, Sister Inah, who lived to 116 and was once the oldest person in the world, ate “everything” – except bananas. Even at 116, her mind was razor-sharp. During one visit, she carefully asked how to spell Zatz’s name before writing it down herself, her hand steady.

These stories challenge the idea that longevity comes from strict discipline. “Our centenarians eat everything,” Zatz says.Which raises an uncomfortable contrast with the longevity industry now flourishing among the ultra-wealthy. The pursuit of eternal youth in places like California is built on control – measuring, tracking, optimising every biological process. But it is also relentless, expensive and, arguably, stressful.

In Brazil, longevity looks less like optimisation and more like adaptation. That doesn’t mean lifestyle doesn’t matter.“Healthy ageing is not only genetics,” says Prof Cesar de Oliveira of University College London. “It also depends on environment, behaviour and social life.” And here, Brazil offers some powerful clues.

Brazilian supercentenatians move often, and don’t limit their diet. Image: Vinicius “amnx” Amano

Movement is constant and informal. Food is simple and largely unprocessed – with rice and beans a staple. Coffee is frequent, social, woven into the day. But perhaps most important is community. Brazil is a country where life happens collectively. Families remain close, often across generations. Even in cities, social interaction is constant – in the street, on the beach, in cafés and homes.

Zatz believes this cultural fabric may play a role. “Brazilians are optimistic,” she says. “Even with all the problems – people make jokes. They laugh.”

Standing again on Ipanema beach, watching the morning swimmers emerge from the surf, laughing, greeting each other like old friends, it’s hard not to feel that this is what endurance looks like. They are not chasing longer lives. They are living them.

And perhaps that’s the real lesson: longevity, in Brazil, isn’t built in a lab. It’s built over generations – in genes, in families, in communities, and in the messy, joyful business of everyday life.

Amazon cargo plane pilots are pictured after their aircraft killed five people at Miami airport

Published

Joseph Carroll was one of the pilots at the helm of the Boeing 767 jet when it barreled off the runway in Miami on Sunday

The two pilots of an Amazon cargo jet when it ran off the runway at Miami International Airport have been pictured for the first time.

Joseph Carroll, 55, and Jaime Filipe Silva Molina, 37, were at the helm of the Boeing 767 when it barreled off the tarmac and killed five people on Sunday.

According to the Miami Herald, the two have since been released from hospital after the aircraft crashed while trying to land.

It comes after the five victims were identified as Rolando Aleman, 55, Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, 53, Julio C Pineda, 75, Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53, and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo, 47.

The aircraft slammed into a van then through a fence, and then onto a local street where it destroyed an SUV.

The five were all in a van owned by Professional Ocean Service Corp., a contract cleaning company for airline companies, NBC News reported.

‘Our employees are far more than the people who work beside us each day; they are family, and they are deeply loved,’ the firm said in a statement.

‘Our hearts and prayers are with every employee and every family whose lives have been forever changed. We grieve with those who lost a loved one and pray for the healing and recovery of those who were injured.’

Three other people are still hospitalized, sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said. Eugenio Corredor, 79, and Ridoel Averhoff Diaz, 32, are in critical condition. Roosevelt Sebastian Perdomo Torres, 36, is in stable condition.

Two of the men were passengers in the van, and the third was injured on the ground, authorities said.

Witness Abraham Altamar told CBS News that one of the pilots approached him after the crash and said ‘my career is over.’

The Amazon cargo jet slammed into a 2012 Ford van before it skidded across the ground and hit another car, Jennifer Homendy, the chair of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), said on Monday.

Homendy said seven people working for a contract airline cleaning company were inside the van. It is unclear how many were in the other car.

The plane was arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico – the aircraft’s third trip of the day, according to Homendy.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but a preliminary report by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) found that the airport is not equipped with the Engineered Materials Arresting System (EMAS) that has been installed at more than 120 airports nationwide.

The system places beds of lightweight, crushable material at the end of a runway to help bring planes that overshoot the tarmac safely to a stop, the agency said.

Homendy said the plane overshot the runway, making it about 1,300ft past the paved surface.

Terrifying dispatch audio obtained by the Daily Mail revealed the horrific moment rescuers counted the dead after the crash.

‘This aircraft overran the runway and crossed 67th Avenue. It struck a truck,’ one emergency responder said, according to the audio.

‘We do have a patient on the ground. We’re looking at surveilling the area for more patients.’

RNLI boats carrying 140 migrants were denied entry to TWO ports before they landed at docks near Portsmouth and met by hundreds of protesters

Published

on

The migrants were brought ashore by RNLI vessels at Eastney Landing on Sunday

Two RNLI lifeboats carrying 140 Channel migrants were denied entry to two larger ports before docking near Portsmouth, where they were met by hundreds of masked protesters.

Police officers were injured and vehicles damaged during a stand-off with more than 500 balaclava-clad men after the asylum seekers were brought ashore at Eastney Landing on Sunday.

The leader of Portsmouth City Council has heavily criticised the decision, claiming it had ‘put lives at risk’ and caused ‘needless disruption’.

It has now emerged that two RNLI crews were barred from docking at Southampton Port and Portsmouth Harbour, with governing bodies threatening legal action if they did so.

A broadcast on an open marine VHF radio revealed that Southampton Vessel Traffic Service and King’s Harbour Master Portsmouth denied the RNLI permission to enter either port or their approaches and failure to comply could result in criminal prosecution.

The crews of the Bembridge and Yarmouth lifeboats therefore decided to sail several miles further along the coast and dock instead at Eastney, where the confrontation later unfolded.

Large crowds blocked traffic along the road leading away from the port in an attempt to stop the migrants reaching a processing centre in Kent. Police were seen carrying riot shields as they confronted the black-clad mob.

Hampshire Police Federation claimed two officers were pushed off motorbikes, while others had bricks thrown at them.

The chaos came a day after masked anti-migrant protesters blocked traffic at the Port of Dover.

Crowds stayed in the area until the early hours of today

The landing sparked protests which saw demonstrators clash with riot police until they were dispersed in the early hours of Monday

Hard-Right organisation Patriot Platform – run by convicted attempted kidnapper Daniel Thomas – claimed responsibility for the demonstrations in Portsmouth and Dover.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has called for a ban on face coverings worn by extremists on both the Left and Right, describing them as a ‘menace’ designed to bully and intimidate. He insisted the ban should include all full-face coverings, including burkas.

Associated British Ports (ABP) confirmed that the RNLI lifeboats carrying the migrants were told not to come to Southampton on Sunday night.

‘ABP did receive an enquiry about landing recovered migrants at the Port of Southampton,’ a spokesman said. ‘We had to decline the enquiry as the port did not have suitable reception facilities available.

‘If there had been a safety-of-life-at-sea issue where Southampton was the closest port, or if we had received a formal direction from the authorities, then we would have played a role. Neither was the case in this situation.’

The King’s Harbour Master Portsmouth has been approached for comment.

The migrant ‘mega-dinghy’ had travelled about 70 miles from the Normandy coast, becoming the first migrant boat known to have completed such a lengthy crossing. Its route was far removed from the usual transit point between Calais and Dover.

The decision to land the migrants in Portsmouth has sparked a major row, with Portsmouth City Council leader Steve Pitt accusing the Home Office of ‘poor judgment’.

He said: ‘The Government needs to take more action to prevent small boat crossings. Clearly people are not happy with the situation and we respect everyone’s right to protest, but it should be done peacefully and within the law.

‘We are pleased the coaches were eventually able to leave Portsmouth early this morning to take people outside Hampshire for processing in the normal way.

‘The council wasn’t asked about the decision to land the lifeboats in Portsmouth. This was entirely a decision taken by UK Border Force, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and the Home Office.

‘It was a completely unsuitable location to bring the boats ashore. This entire situation was avoidable and has brought needless disruption to our city. I would like to thank the emergency services for their professionalism under very challenging circumstances.

‘However, the Home Office has some serious questions to answer about its lack of planning, inconsistent decision-making and, ultimately, poor judgment. It put people at risk. This cannot happen again.’

There are now fears more dinghies will make the long-distance sea voyage from Normandy as smugglers evolve their tactics.

A senior French interior ministry source told the Daily Mail: ‘The geographical focus of the people smugglers is definitely changing.

‘They are finding it much harder to get boats launched in the Pas-de-Calais and so are moving west to Normandy.

‘We expect far more of the mega-dinghies to appear here in the coming weeks and months. The success on Sunday proved the voyage can be done.’

The Home Office confirmed 625 migrants reached Britain on Sunday, the highest daily total since July 29.

A further, as-yet-unconfirmed number, thought to be about 130, arrived in the early hours of Monday.

Occupants of the Portsmouth dinghy, including 20 women and eight ‘very young children’, refused rescue after their outboard motor broke down, according to French officials.

The 46ft mega-dinghy left an isolated beach near Jobourg, Normandy, in the ‘very early hours’ of Sunday morning, a senior search-and-rescue official said.

‘Jobourg is not patrolled by police because nobody would expect a boat to leave from such an isolated, rocky spot,’ the source said.

‘Within an hour or so, the boat was in serious difficulty and passengers on board made Mayday calls on their mobile phones.’

Its outboard motor failed, leaving the dinghy drifting dangerously 14 miles off the French coast.

‘We asked them who wanted to be rescued, and the answer was no one,’ said the source.

‘Only a few migrants were wearing life jackets, so we handed out jackets to all of them. It seemed incomprehensible that they were risking their lives without life jackets.

‘A second outboard motor was made to work, allowing the boat to continue its voyage to Britain.’

Five French rescue boats and two helicopters were involved in an operation that monitored and supported the dinghy’s 14-hour crossing.

A spokesman for the Maritime Prefecture for the English Channel and the North Sea said migrants were not transferred to rescue vessels due to concerns over the ‘structural fragility’ of their dinghy.

The crossing was later monitored by British authorities, including a Coastguard aircraft and RNLI lifeboats, before the vessel was escorted into Eastney Marina, three miles from Portsmouth’s main harbour.

A Home Office spokesman said: ‘We condemn the intimidating and thuggish behaviour we saw in Portsmouth last night.

‘The right to peaceful protest is fundamental to our democracy, but it must never cross the line into disorder. We thank the emergency services who safely managed this situation.

‘This Government is doing the hard and necessary work of bearing down on small boat crossings, with the lowest number of arrivals between June and August since 2020.’

The RNLI helped more than 36,000 people across its lifeboat and lifeguard services last year, with crews launching more than 9,000 times to assist those in distress at sea.

RNLI lifeboat crews insist they have a duty to rescue anyone at sea, regardless of who they are.

Porto v Man City LIVE: Champions League latest score and updates

Porto 0-0 Manchester City, 12 minutes

More like it from Manchester City, breaking the lines with Ayyoub Bouaddi connecting with a couple of teammates to progress the ball. Porto lock into their defensive shape quickly enough to prevent further penetration, before Ruben Dias’ pass evades Matheus Nunes on the right flank.

Rayan Cherki is buzzing about all over the place in search of possession, but Porto have so far handled him well. Alan Varela and Pablo Rosario give them real strength in that defensive midfield area.

William Gomes takes a tumble after dispossessing Josko Gvardiol, though there is no foul by the Manchester City man. Gomes then beats him soon afterwards with a quick shuffle of feet and change of direction, though runs out of play at the byline.

Porto 0-0 Manchester City, 7 minutes

Cagey enough stuff, mind, in these opening minutes. Manchester City bop the ball about in their defensive third in relative comfort but are trapped in by a good Porto press.

Pepe gets a first chance in a semblance of space wide on the Porto left, but Matheus Nunes is across in short order to cover. Nunes is back to full fitness after a bit of an ankle niggle that disrupted the start of his season.

A few whistles as Gianluigi Donnarumma takes his time over the opening goal kick of the game. Ruben Dias, a Benfica youth product, gets his fair share of jeering, too.

Francesco Farioli has a cap on, shielding himself from the elements as he shouts some directions to his side in typically energetic fashion. It looks like a typical 4-3-3 from the hosts, with Ayyoub Bouaddi the deeper of Manchester City’s double midfield pivot.

“Perfect weather,” Alan Shearer remarks on commentary, perhaps reflective of a summer sweltering both in the United Kingdon and in the United States during the World Cup. It’s hosing it down.

Nicolas Cage’s Malibu beachfront mansion rocked by massive SINKHOLE as driveway collapses at lavish $10.5million home

Nicolas Cage's Malibu mansion has been afflicted by a massive sinkhole that has swallowed the driveway of the beachfront home

Nicolas Cage‘s Malibu mansion has been rocked by a massive sinkhole that has swallowed the beachfront home’s driveway.

Photos of the destruction show the once-palatial property sitting on the edge of a massive crater that has taken down the driveway, a portion of the adjacent street and a portable restroom.

The luxurious residence, which Cage purchased for $10.5 million in 2024, has now been sectioned off with various orange construction cones.

Workers could also be assessing the situation inside the sinkhole and along the street.

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Cage, 62, and has not yet heard back.

Firefighters discovered the collapsed driveway early Tuesday morning after responding to a suspected gas main break, a public information officer told KTLA.

The hole, which is believed to be around 30 feet by 30 feet wide, was reportedly the result of coastal erosion.

No one has been ordered to evacuate and the gas company has been on site fixing the main.

Notably, the damage occurred as high surf continues battering the Southern California coast following the development of former Hurricane Marie, the website adds.

KTLA reporter Rich Prickett, who was reporting on the incident from the air, said no one appeared to be inside the home at the time.

‘Substantial damage done to this home, or at least the driveway to this home here in Malibu,’ he said.

‘It doesn’t appear that anybody was home. As a matter of fact, the house looks like it is under some sort of renovation.’

No one has been reported to have been injured, according to KTLA.

Located in a highly desirable oceanfront setting, the home contains a rooftop deck with jacuzzi, soaring glass walls, multiple bedrooms, and was the previous owners ‘happy place’.

The home was built in the 1990s by the late Jose Liberman, co-founder of the Liberman Broadcasting, and remained in his family until it was sold to Cage.

‘Yes, Nicolas Cage bought our home in Malibu,’ Lenard Liberman, Jose’s son and Liberman Broadcasting co-founder, told The New York Times in 2024.

‘My parents would go on weekends and it was my father’s “happy place”, he explained.

‘My father passed away and my mom just couldn’t go to the house anymore. Too many memories,’ he added.

The residence contains access to an isolated beach, chef’s kitchen, and garage with elevator access.

An Oscar winner, Cage is a member of a Hollywood dynasty.

Born Nicolas Kim Coppola, Cage is the son of the late American academic and author August Coppola as well as the nephew of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola and his actress sister Talia Shire.

The family includes Cage’s cousins, filmmaker Sofia Coppola and actor Jason Schwartzman.

His grandparents were composer Carmine Coppola – who scored many of Francis’s films – and Italia Coppola, who also appeared in her son’s Godfather films.

Over the decades, Cage carved out a wildly impressive acting career with roles in films Moonstruck, Raising Arizona, Gone in 60 Seconds, National Treasure, and an Oscar win for Leaving Las Vegas.

Last year Cage legally changed his name to ‘Nick Cage’ to avoid being the Coppola ‘clown cousin’.

‘I am Nick Cage. I changed my name legally last year,’ he told Variety

The name was inspired by Marvel character Luke Cage, a last name he thought was ‘cool.’

‘I’m Nick Cage in life, and I’m Nick Cage on camera. ‘Tis better to be the patriarch of my own little family than the clown cousin on the margins of someone else’s, so I decided I’m going to bring it on and be “Cage.”

‘”Cage” is a name that I liked coming across in the comics — I just thought he had a cool name — and I grew up in a very avant-garde, artsy family and there was talk about John Cage and the experimental compositions that he did. I was looking for something like “James Dean”; I was looking for something short and sweet.

‘I thought, well, I’ll keep the name “Nicolas” because my father named me Nicolas — with French spelling, which has always frustrated me, because everyone adds an “h.” I don’t know why he gave me the French spelling! But he did.’

Whether he prefers ‘Nick’ or ‘Nicolas,’ the actor told Variety: ‘I’m both! I think people know me as both.’

In 2021, Cage walked down the aisle a fifth time when we wed his much-younger wife Riko Shibata, now age 31. They welcomed daughter August Francesca in 2022.

The actor also has sons Kal-El, 18, with ex-wife Kim and Weston, 33, with ex-girlfriend Christina Fulton.
