It had to bring in security to help manage the crowds

A stall which attracted huge crowds at Manchester Christmas Markets has hinted about a new ‘more permanent’ base.

The Waffle Kart in King Street Manchester had people queuing round the block while the festive markets were open, with the line of people stretching all the way through the alleyway to South King Street. Its pickle-brined fried chicken and waffles have become a massive hit over the last few years, but 2025 was the busiest yet.

Describing itself as ‘a lil’ bit Chinese’, it’s inspired by British Chinese takeaway food that owner Maisie Chow was brought up on in her family’s Chinese restaurant. Its waffle prawn toast is a particular hit, with other offerings including chicken and waffles, chilli crisp chicken sandwiches and chicken loaded waffle fries.

Maisie and her partner Heather Brown set up the business in 2023 and pitch up at the Etihad Stadium during match days and events.

But after the markets they were inundated with requests from people asking where else they can find the foodie treats.

Now it seems fans might well be in luck after the pair hinted that a more permanent site is coming soon.

Sharing the details on Instagram, they said: “So before you all go off, we’re not opening our own shop just yet. BUT we are gonna be operating in a more permanent location where you can come and get chicken waffles four days a week!!

“It’s been a long time in the making. We’ve spent 3 years popping up at events around Manchester and the North. Gazebo-life is wild, fun, busy, getting slammed in the space of 30 mins in a field with minimal power -but all in all probably a bit inconvenient for those of you who just fancy us for your tea on a weeknight.

“So last summer when we heard about this opportunity, we knew we wanted to get it locked in. Right people, great location, local to us. Can’t say more than that!!”

Asking ‘where do you think we’re opening?’ they’ve left customers guessing and wondering where the site might be.

Salford precinct please,” said one, while another added: “Having moved to Swinton from the City Centre, I hope it is out this way!!”

Wherever the pair decide to pop up, it’s likely those queues won’t be far behind.
