After a summer break, Man Utd’s players reported for the first day of pre-season at Carrington earlier this week.

United’s players returned to Carrington on Thursday to report for pre-season. The players were given individual fitness programmes to complete during their break, and fitness tests will be taken to gauge where their levels are at.
Leny Yoro was there after he failed to make the France squad. Joshua Zirkzee was also back after he was left out of the Netherlands squad, and Dermot Mee returned after he signed a new two-year contract.
Patrick Dorgu was back at Carrington with Denmark failing to qualify, while forwards Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko will also get a full pre-season after Cameroon and Slovenia failed to make it to North America.
Regarding the youngsters involved with senior training, Shea Lacey, Harry Amass, Tyler Fredricson and Jack Fletcher took part. Michael Carrick and his backroom staff are understood to rate Lacey “highly”.
During pre-season, United will play Wrexham (Helsinki, Finland), Rosenborg (Trondheim, Norway), Atletico Madrid (Stockholm, Sweden), Paris Saint-Germain (Gothenburg, Sweden), Leeds (Dublin, Republic of Ireland) and AC Milan (Wroclaw, Poland).
United’s pre-season tours around the world have been hugely commercially successful, but the club will stay in Europe this summer to protect players from clocking up thousands of air miles.
Talented youngster JJ Gabriel will get a chance to show what he can do in pre-season. United are keen to show Gabriel there is a pathway to the first-team, and plan to involve him in friendlies.
United had 12 senior players representing their nations at the World Cup, and they will gradually report for pre-season after their respective breaks.
