Millions sent phone alert after fire breaks out in York
The government sent that alert to millions of us on our phones across England and Wales, warning against setting light to anything that could spark a wildfire, including barbecues, firepits, and fireworks.
It comes after a fire broke out on the outskirts of York that spread for 1km.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said its crews from Acomb, Malton, and York crews were called to Kirk Balk Lane, Claxton at 2.15pm today (August 14) after a wildfire was seen.
