Daryll was last seen in the Marsden coastal area of South Shields on the morning of Saturday, May 2.

The 44-year-old had contacted a family member by phone at around 9am that day – however he has not been heard from since.

Since being reported missing, extensive enquiries have been carried out by Northumbria Police to locate Daryll, including a review of available CCTV in the area.

A trainer which is believed to be Daryll’s was found at Marsden on May 3.

Today (Friday. May 29), the force has confirmed that officers now believe he entered into water off Marsden.

Daryll’s family have been informed of developments in the investigation and continue to be supported by officers.

Detective Inspector Nick Went, of the force’s dedicated missing investigation team, said: “Our thoughts are very much with Daryll’s family and loved ones at this extremely difficult time.

“We have carried out a wide range of enquiries since he was reported missing to us at the beginning of this month. Sadly, Daryll has not been seen or heard from since then.

“It is now our hypothesis that he entered the North Sea off Marsden on May 2.

“We would like to thank all of the officers who have been involved in the searches for Daryll, including those in our partner organisations and HM Coastguard who have assisted in the search.

“I would also like to thank those in our communities who have shared our appeal to locate him. It is very much appreciated and does not go unnoticed.”
