It was a piston right cross from Pauls that first hurt Thompson, completely throwing off the favourite’s equilibrium.

Pauls seemed to feint as if he might go low, and it might have momentarily frozen Thompson?

Thompson then tried to throw a lead right hook, but the southpaw was second to the punch – a fraction too slow.

That small difference in timing had a massive effect on the result. Thompson is beaten for the first time.

He’s onto a knee, and although he beats the ref’s count, he’s so vulnerable now…

Pauls is pouring on shots, some of them scrappy – he’s eating punches, too – but he’s landing on repeat!

OH, Thompson goes down again and the ref wave sit off before he’s even hit the mat!

Pauls is showing spirit but he just seems to be waning…

The body work from Thompson is really brutal at this point.

Thompson has started to deliver on the hype around him, using his range well and finding his timing.

Pauls has been game, but he’s struggling with those long levers of Thompson, who is breaking down his opponent via body shots now.

Nice counter jab from Pauls as he’s trapped in the corner, and now he punches his way onto the front foot. Better!
