Two senators have urged President Donald Trump to rethink his threat to ban aircraft sales by Canadian manufacturer Bombardier in the United States.

“NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES! Their products aren’t good enough!” Trump wrote in a social media post Monday. “If they want our Market, they must build here, and stop treating America like a ‘piggybank.’”

The dispute follows the breakdown of Canada-U.S. trade negotiations on Aug. 21, which led Trump and his administration to launch a series of tariffs and aggressive public statements directed at Canada. Ottawa retaliated Tuesday by introducing tit-for-tat tariffs targeting approximately $20 billion in American imports.

Responding to Trump’s remarks about Bombardier, the private jet maker pointed out that key components for its aircraft, including wings and engines, are already manufactured in the U.S. and emphasized its heavy reliance on an American supply network.

Bombardier said that the U.S. aerospace sector remains a “clear winner on trade and exports” and the company highlighted that it supports tens of thousands of jobs directly and through its broad supplier network.

Bombardier is one of Canada’s most historic manufacturers. Established by Quebec inventor Joseph-Armand Bombardier in the 1930s as a snowmobile maker, the company expanded into rail car manufacturing and commercial aviation over the decades before restructuring to focus exclusively on business jets.

Its current supply chain involves roughly 2,800 U.S. businesses across 47 states. Wings for its business aircraft are manufactured in Texas, while flight control systems are built near Los Angeles. Additionally, Honeywell produces engines for Bombardier’s Challenger jets in Phoenix, and Iowa-based Collins Aerospace manufactures avionics and communication systems in Cedar Rapids.

“Bombardier values its great partnership with American companies and its U.S. employees. Our plan is to continue to invest in our people, our customers, and the communities in which we operate across the country,” the company said.

The threat has sparked concern in Kansas, a Republican stronghold that has held both U.S. Senate seats for a century and voted for Trump by roughly 16 percentage points in 2024. Both of the state’s senators confirmed they contacted the White House to address the potential economic fallout for local workers.

“I reached out to the Trump administration to make certain the President is aware of the significant contributions of Bombardier to Kansas and the importance of its presence in Wichita to many Kansas workers at Bombardier and in the Bombardier supply chain,” Sen. Jerry Moran wrote in a social media post, adding that he would work to maintain the manufacturer’s presence in the state.

Sen. Roger Marshall voiced the same support in a social media post Tuesday, saying “I’m going to fight to keep Bombardier’s over 1,200 Kansas jobs. I’ve already taken that concern inside the Oval Office.”

The trade friction comes after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced plans earlier this year to acquire six airborne early-warning radar aircraft built by Sweden’s Saab in partnership with Bombardier, bypassing American defense contractors. The Saab system utilizes Bombardier’s Global 6500 aircraft platform and contains 20% U.S.-made components. Canada selected the platform over Boeing’s E-7A Wedgetail and L3Harris’s Aeris X.

Canada is also reviewing its planned purchase of U.S. F-35 fighter jets, while Saab has pitched building its Gripen fighter jet locally within Canada.

On May 15, rail minister Lord Hendy was brought up to Darlington to officially open the ultra-modern extension, but four months later, the approaches are still an eyesore with no completion date until next spring.

With ugly red emergency fencing drawing every visitor’s attention to the crash barriers and the weeds, it does not create the impression that the town, which is trying to position itself as the No 11 of the north, is vibrant and on top of things.

Indeed, the Bank Top station extension was initially planned to be open in time for the railway bicentenary in September 2025, but, as delays are expected for anything to do with British trains, that was pushed back to December 2025 and then to spring 2026 and now it seems the chaos is to continue until spring 2027.

There are already misgivings in the town about the development – the new long platforms are brutally exposed in bad weather while the old, atmospheric and covered station feels underused – and the eyesore that now greets people is not winning over any hearts.

There is bickering between the combined authority and the council over who is to blame for the delays but you would have thought that an adequate drainage system should have been planned a lot earlier in the process.

Those waiting in traffic queues cannot do much to hurry up the process but they can marvel at how even in the birthplace of the railways we cannot complete a station project on time and on budget while keeping local people on track.

​Plans to transform Scarborough’s historic West Pier and ensure it remains a working harbour and a popular visitor destination are set to require additional funding due to an “increase in costs”.

​​At a meeting in May, councillors said the scheme is expected to cost around £15 million, of which £1.7 million had been spent so far.

​​After decades of exposure to harsh marine conditions, many of the historic West Pier’s buildings are in a dilapidated state and North Yorkshire Council is working on a multi-million-pound regeneration scheme to revitalise the landmark structure.

​According to council documents, the additional expenditure is expected to be less than £1 million but exact costs are yet to be announced.

​“This report is to seek additional funding to cover the increase in cost since the decision by the former Scarborough Borough Council to proceed with the development,” a council notice states.

​A decision on the additional funding is due to be made later this winter.

​A meeting of the authority’s executive committee has been scheduled for Tuesday, November 17, to discuss the additional funding requirement.

​​The project includes restoring and repairing existing heritage facilities to bring them back into active use, preserving their character, alongside the creation of new, modern, flood-resilient buildings for commercial use and improved public facilities such as toilets and parking.

​Plans also include new business opportunities to support the local economy, new kiosks, enhanced pedestrian routes and a new paved plaza which could accommodate outdoor events and cultural activities.

​​At a meeting in January 2025, a decision on plans to redevelop the West Pier was deferred after questions were raised about the scheme’s economic benefits and the importance of adding a boat hoist.

​​Robin Gray, chairman of the Scarborough Harbour Advisory Board, has said that a long-discussed boat lift and marina expansion project in the town could generate more than £1.4 million annually and help create hundreds of additional berths.​

​The claim emerged during a recent meeting of the Scarborough Harbour Users Group, where members discussed future development plans and North Yorkshire Council’s wider harbour strategy.

​​Mr Gray told attendees he had developed a Green Book-standard business case setting out the potential economic benefits of a boat lift and associated marine facilities.

​Speaking at the meeting, he said the proposals could generate more than £1.4 million a year through a combination of berthing income and supporting businesses such as engineering and chandlery services.

The document also reportedly suggests the harbour could accommodate about 240 berths in the outer harbour.

​The proposals form part of wider discussions around the long-term “Blue Sky” vision for Scarborough Harbour, which council officers confirmed has now been incorporated into North Yorkshire Council’s adopted Harbours Strategy.

​​Chris Bourne, North Yorkshire Council’s head of harbours, said a £200,000 funding bid had been submitted to the Government’s Fishing and Coastal Growth Fund to support a feasibility study into the wider harbour expansion proposals.

​He said the study would be used to establish accurate costs and benefits for any development.

They added: “In a letter to Ealing on 24 April 2026, submitted alongside our formal response to the council’s call for submissions, we said that running what amounted to a ‘mini-procurement’ exercise, without published scoring or clear criteria, wasn’t a robust basis for excluding any operator from the borough.

And the film shares plenty of nuggets that Oasis fans will lap up. Not least the very first song performed in the film seeing Noel, Bonehead and the band rehearsing fan favourite track Columbia.

As fans who headed to Oasis Live ’25 will know, Columbia didn’t actually make the setlist for the shows. So was it supposed to be on the setlist, we ask?

Dylan said: “We felt so privileged to hear that, because for about the first week that was in the set of songs that they were rehearsing, what didn’t make it into the film was there were conversations about whether that should or should not go in [the setlist].

Dylan added: “Our opinion was it should go in because it’s a banger! It’s one of my favourite songs off the first album. I’m not sure why they made the decision to cut it but it just somehow didn’t gel in the whole set and so when they had to cut things down to fit into the time that was one of the first to get cut out.”

But Dylan and Will soon understood how the band felt with having to cut songs off their setlist – as they found they were having to do the same with deciding which moments to include in the film.

For example, here in Manchester, the team decided to film the final weekend of shows in Heaton Park. Which meant you get to see a rather gloomier Manchester than the blazing heat of those epic opening shows at Heaton Park last July.

Will said: “We filmed on the last weekend, and it was always going to rain when we were there! And it had been so beautiful on the first shows.” But it also coincided with the building hype around “Gallagher Hill” where fans without tickets decided to head up to the top of the park to get their own free concert.

Will said: “It felt like a huge part of those Manchester gigs. It said something about the spirit of Manchester people as well.” Dylan added: “I loved the fact Liam spoke to the fans up on the hill that was brilliant.”

Steven added: “Gallagher Hill – the fact that someone had sprayed Don’t Look Back in Anger on it, it was just too perfect – we didn’t do that by the way!”

The full setlist from those historic gigs is not in the film, so how did they choose which moments to feature? Dylan: “We can imagine what it felt like for Noel and Liam putting the setlist together, because it was really hard to choose which ones. The opening of Cardiff was so kind of electric, that we knew that had to be where we started in terms of music on the tour.

“Sometimes it was like that performance of that particular song that’s the best we’ve seen it on the tour and that’s why, and sometimes it was narrative.

“For example Live Forever in Sao Paolo was so special because of the Mani tribute, it was the perfect song for that moment.

“It was like putting a puzzle together and some songs unfortunately didn’t find a place, we were sad to lose some of them. But you hear snippets of songs at rehearsals and hear Oasis tunes at sound check but that was the challenge.”

Will adds: “There was a heck of a lot of material, there was amazing stuff that didn’t make it.” Dylan adds: “We had a cut that was about four and a half hours long at one point, it had so much stuff in it.”

While the film features that much-trumpeted first joint interview with Liam and Noel, fans may ponder after seeing the movie how Liam and Noel first decided to bury the hatchet. We asked directors Will and Dylan why that is not addressed in the film.

Dylan said: “I don’t think there was a specific catalytic moment, Liam had been the most eager he wanted the band to happen, Noel had been much more hesitant. Time had passed, circumstances had changed, I think an offer came from somewhere and that’s the thing that kind of made them consider it.

“But the real story is they agreed to get back together, and the real story is that it was a genuine reconciliation, even at the end of rehearsals we were unsure if that was going to happen because they were so focussed and workmanlinke that at the end of rehearsals we still weren’t quite sure where they stood with each other.”

In the film the audience will see how frosty the two brothers were with each other in those early rehearsals – including the first time that Liam walks in to work with his brother in 15 years. It was all captured by cameras hidden away to make the scenes as unforced and real as possible.

Steven says: “Here’s two working class blokes, Liam walks into this room there’s no handshake, no hug, no high five, no tears, no words, it’s straight into the work. It’s via the work, via the process of them both wanting this to be really good that that relationship starts to thaw, we start to see the first smiles, then in Cardiff Liam raised Noel’s hand and they weren’t expecting that the stepping stones of a relationship that I think people will really identify with.”

By the end of the movie, the joint interview shows just how much their relationship has changed. And by the end, they reveal they’re actually friendlier than they’ve ever been.

Dylan adds: “The magic happened when you added the crowds and I really think how unexpected that level of emotion was really affected them both and as corny as it sounds it was the music, the love of the crowd that kind of pushed them back together. You can see it across the shows through the film.”

As for their personal favourite songs from the tour? Dylan said: “I like Bring it on Down because i like the louder, punkier sounds.”

Will said: “Aquiesce in Seoul was pretty amazing, it was a brilliant performance with a really great crowd.”

Meanwhile Steven said: “The first song in Cardiff [Hello]. That was the moment when instantly, Liam and Noel as well, saw what happened.

“As soon as that first chord started playing, people were spontaneously sobbing, people across the generations hugging each other. It didn’t build to that, that wasn’t the climax, that was the first song.”

Dylan agreed on Cardiff. He said: “It really shaped what the documentary went on to become, because Cardiff that was the first chance to see how big it was. We knew it would be big, we knew it would be emotional, but not quite how emotional for Liam and Noel and it was a pivotal point for everyone.”

Dylan adds: “You see a vulnerability in them that you don’t see in the Oasis of old. Older and wiser, these gigs really meant something to them on this tour. The emotional stakes were high.”

Just this week, fans once again saw how special the relationship now appears to be between Liam and Noel – and with their children all now being close friends too. Together they walked the red carpet at the London premiere.

Steven ends by saying: “I really wanted this to be a film about people coming together, about family. To be as corny as possible to make it a peace, love and understanding message. And the music tells that story.”

Another classic received an update with the epic retelling of Barbara Taylor Bradford’s A Woman of Substance.

These contenders couldn’t contrast more starkly with hard-hitting true-crime dramas Believe Me and I Fought the Law, or the racy ice hockey melodrama Heated Rivalry.

There are powerful stories, expertly told in Authored Documentary – a quest for answers in Caroline Flack: Search for the Truth, career candour in Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix, moving tributes in Our Girls: The Southport Families and Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home, and bravery in the face of a devastating diagnosis in Sir Chris Hoy: Cancer, Courage and Me.

Returning Drama honours the shows whose comebacks are always welcome, from Blue Lights, Bridgerton, Call the Midwife, Trigger Point or Stranger Things.

In Comedy, Amandaland takes on Alan Carr’s coming-of-age gem Changing Ends as well as Mrs Brown’s Boys, Not Going Out and Last One Laughing.

In the Serial Drama category, defending champion EastEnders attempts to retain its crown, while Coronation Street and Emmerdale have their eyes on the prize after a high-profile year which saw the two ITV soaps team up for the Corriedale crossover.

Hollyoaks marked its big birthday by catching up with events on Brookside Close and a tough shortlist is rounded out by medical stalwart Casualty in its 40th anniversary year.

Competing for The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award are Gladiators, The Graham Norton Show, The Masked Singer, Michael McIntyre’s Big Show and Would I Lie To You?

The Quiz Show category is a closely fought contest between bankable hits, with Ant & Dec’s Limitless Win, Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel, Richard Osman’s House of Games, The 1 per cent Club and The Chase highlighting the variety of our homegrown gameshows.

In Serial Drama Performance, EastEnders Paul Bradley is nominated (for Nigel’s tragic goodbye) as is his castmate Aaron Thiara (for Ravi’s mental health crisis).

Meanwhile Emmerdale’s Jeff Hordley is rewarded for imbuing Cain Dingle with new-found vulnerability.

Over on Coronation Street, Sue Devaney earns a nomination for depicting Debbie’s sad decline and Gareth Pierce is singled out for his powerful portrayal of coercive control victim Todd Grimshaw.

Agendas continued to be set In Daytime, with Good Morning Britain, This Morning and Loose Women providing no end of talking points.

Elsewhere, there was plenty of weekend culinary inspiration in James Martin’s Saturday Morning while Scam Interceptors did valuable work arming us against internet fraud.

It’s another tough-to-call clash in Factual Entertainment as Sort Your Life Out takes on cash-saving consumer crusades of The Martin Lewis Money Show Live.

Sir David Attenborough’s Secret Garden revealed the hidden wild world of Britain’s backyards, 24 Hours in Police Custody continues to provide gripping true crime stories, and beloved Gogglebox couch potatoes should never be discounted.

Talent Show remains a ratings-grabbing category as viewers gather in their millions to cheer on their favourites.

Glitzy favourites Strictly Come Dancing and Britain’s Got Talent will go up against The Great British Bake Off, The Great Pottery Throw Down and for the first time, The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer.

The family of an elderly couple stabbed to death at their home said the pair were ‘inseparable’.

Haji Ismail Ahmed Leli, 80, and Hajiyani Fatima Ismail Leli, 78, were believed to be found dead by their carers.

Police were called to a terraced home in Blackburn, Lancashire, on Monday where the couple were found with stab wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

A murder investigation was launched and a man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. 

Today a family tribute read: ‘On behalf of our entire family, we are heartbroken to share that we have lost our parents, the oldest and most cherished members of our family.

‘Married and inseparable for more than 60 years, they were the very heart of who we are – devoted to one another, loved by everyone who knew them.

‘Their loss left a void that words cannot describe, and we are still coming to terms with what has happened.

‘At this incredibly difficult time, we wish to express our deepest gratitude to the police for their diligence, professionalism and compassion.’

They added: ‘We are also grateful to our local councillors and to the wider community, whose kindness and support have meant a great deal to us.’

It continued: ‘In particular, we thank Masjide Quwwatal Islam, which has been our source of strength, comfort and practical support to our family throughout.

‘We now ask, respectfully that our family’s privacy be respected, so that we may grieve and mourn in accordance with our faith.

‘We would be grateful for the space and understanding of the media and the public during this period.’

Today the street remains cordoned off, and a forensic tent remains in front of the house, while officers searched for clues.

Neighbours woke up to a large police presence with detectives carrying out door-to-door enquiries. 

One couple, who live in the next block of Hardman Street, said: ‘When we got up, just after 8am, we looked outside and it was all there then. It was a bit of a shock.’

Terence, who has lived in Hardman Street for ’30 years’, said police had allowed him inside his home after returning from work to discover a crime scene had been put in place.

He said: ‘It used to be quiet round here but it’s not anymore.’

Another resident said the couple who lived in the property were elderly and were members of the nearby mosque. He described them as ‘very private’.

In a statement issued on Monday, Lancashire Constabulary said: ‘Lancashire Police have launched a murder investigation after two people were sadly found dead inside a house in Blackburn.

‘Our officers were called by the North-West Ambulance Service at 8.22am today to an address in Hardman Street, to a report two people had been found with stab injuries.

‘Very sadly, a man and woman were both pronounced deceased at the scene. Our thoughts are with their loved ones at this distressing time.

‘They have not yet been formally identified and a Home Office post-mortem examination will take place in due course.’

The force said an increased police presence will remain in the area to conduct enquiries and provide reassurance.

They added: ‘Whilst this is a fast-moving investigation, we are at the early stages of establishing exactly what has occurred and why. Detectives are continuing to work to establish a motive for this tragic incident; however, we don’t believe there is a wider threat to the community.

‘In the meantime, if you saw or heard anything suspicious in the area over the last 24 hours, or have captured any CCTV, dashcam, mobile phone or doorbell footage that could help us with our enquiries, please make contact with our officers as soon as possible.’
