The Beach Hotel on The Parade in Sandsend enjoys a seafront position in the busy tourist village a few miles north of Whitby, and boasts sea views and a prominent central setting.

The three-storey mid-terrace property is being marketed by Barry Crux & Company, who said the business stopped operating at the start of 2026.

“The business stopped trading in January 2026 due to a bereavement,” the agent said in the property listing.

“Our client is still living on site, which ensures the property is heated and maintained. Over the years trade has been strong but in recent years the owners have started to slowly wind the business down.

“This presents an excellent opportunity for a new owner to rejuvenate the property and could be operated in a variety of different ways including pub/restaurant with rooms, bed & breakfast, small hotel or possibly even serviced holiday apartments. This would be subject to gaining any relevant permissions.”

Graham Wilson, owner of The Beach Hotel, died in June this year, aged 71, and a celebration of his life was held on Friday, July 3 at the hotel.

Tributes pouring in to the hotel’s Facebook page where he was described as a ” a loving dad, grandad, ex-racing car driver and friend who touched many lives with his kindness, strength, and generosity”.

In a post, his family wrote: “Our hearts are broken, but we are grateful for the time, love, and memories we shared with him”.

The hotel is now on the market.

Built of stone beneath a pitched roof, the property has single-storey extensions to the rear while, inside, the ground floor contains a bar area and utility spaces.

A first-floor dining room provides 30-cover seating for customers while seven ensuite letting rooms are arranged across the upper floors, alongside a two-bedroom owners’ flat.

A rear garden area is enclosed and forms part of the property.

The listing identifies several possible uses for a new owner, subject to any relevant planning permissions needed.
