Pick-up truck driver arrested after two killed and four hospitalised in horror crash

A pick-up truck reportedly hit four pedestrians before colliding with two other cars

Two people are dead and four others seriously injured after pedestrians and other vehicles were reportedly hit by a pick-up truck close to a busy shopping outlet.

The “multiple-vehicle collision” happened at around 11am on Sunday, on White Rose Way in Doncaster, close to the Lakeside Village outlet shopping centre.

A black Mitsubishi L200 reportedly hit four pedestrians on the carriageway before colliding with a black Audi and silver BMW moving in the other direction on the other side of the road, South Yorkshire Police said.

Two pedestrians died at the scene and four other people were taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, the force added.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 30-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and driving while unfit.

He has been bailed pending further inquiries.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed that there was no police involvement prior to the crash, and that the driver was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive due to drugs.

The force is appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.
