A man was found dead in a car in Gwynedd, an inquest heard. Paul William Rene Daly, aged 69, was found dead in the vehicle, which was parked in a layby near Barmouth.
Police were called to the scene at Bontddu and forced their way into the vehicle, finding a body inside.
Sarah Riley, assistant coroner for North-West Wales, opened an inquest in Caernarfon on Tuesday (September 22) into Mr Daly’s death.
She told the hearing that North Wales Police had noticed the vehicle in the layby set back off the A496 on September 8. Stay in the know by making sure you’re receiving our daily newsletter
Following this, officers attended the scene.
Ms Riley said the windows had been covered, prompting police to force entry to the vehicle before Mr Daly, of Wolverhampton in the West Midlands, was discovered.
Paramedics were called and he was confirmed to have died at 5.57pm that evening, the inquest heard.
A pathologist carried out a post mortem examination into how the retired electrical engineer died.
He has given the provisional cause of death as asphyxia pending toxicological results.
The assistant coroner adjourned the inquest so further investigations could be completed.
