Councillor Mohammed Ayub: “There were signs put up there but they haven’t had much effect.”
“There have been so many accidents at this junction – something needs to be done.
“It is a very difficult junction to judge.”
The signs in question are the ‘give way’ signs and the motion-activated ‘give way, slow down’ signs which light up if a car is going too fast.
The crash involved two cars, one of which was a learner vehicle, and knocked an electricity pole over at the junction between Lever Street and Fletcher Street.
One of the cars in the crash was a black convertible Peugeot, while the other was a blue car associated with a local driving school.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “The two-car road traffic collision happened around 12.45pm – no serious injuries or arrests.”
There have been a number of accidents in that area, with police issuing an appeal after a serious crash last autumn.
A pensioner was seriously injured in 2024 after crossing Fletcher Street and needed an operation.
