A banner showing a group of men with turbans being stopped from entering a park that was erected at a children’s playpark in Moygashel has been removed for a second time, with police saying the incident is being treated as a hate crime.

It was removed by officers on Tuesday, June 16, sparking upset from the Moygashel Bonfire Association on social media who said the force had carried out “a blatant act of betrayal that no community should have to tolerate.”

The association said Moygashel has been “a beacon of stability” during recent disorder in Northern Ireland, where migrant homes were targeted and attacked. But by removing the “child safety banner” the group feels the police have shown “a reckless disregard for public safety”.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “A banner in the Moygashel area, being treated as a hate crime, has been removed by officers from a children’s play park on Tuesday, 16 th June.

“Alternatively, you can report online at www.psni.police.uk/report or in confidence through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
