The Mangrove Restaurant and Takeaway on Manchester Road confirmed the news in a social media post this evening (June 28), thanking customers for their support over the years.

Owner and manager Abdul Atique told The Bolton News he had been considering closing for some time.

“I love this place, I love the customers, and the support I’ve had from them has been amazing since I bought the restaurant,” he said.

“Situations change and my priority is my family. I need to spend more time with them.

“I’ve given 10 years in total here, but my son is growing up and I haven’t been able to spend enough time with him.”

Abdul said that although the announcement came as a surprise on social media, regular customers had been aware of the situation for some time.

He said the site is expected to reopen as an Indian restaurant by a friend of his, after a three-month refurbishment.

The venue is currently not licensed to serve alcohol, but Abdul confirmed the new business will have an alcohol licence.

“It’s going to be fantastic. I’ve seen the designs and it will be a great place to go to,” he said.

Abdul added he would “really miss the customers”, but said family remained his priority.
