Prestigious Green Flag awarded to Ropner and Wynyard parks

Wynyard Woodland Park and Stockton‘s historic Ropner Park have once again been awarded Green Flag status, an internationally recognised mark of quality for parks and public green spaces.

The scheme, run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, is regarded as the global benchmark for excellence and rewards sites that are welcoming, safe, well maintained and managed with sustainability in mind.

The awards recognise not only the quality of the parks themselves but also the work of the staff and volunteers who maintain them throughout the year.

Ropner Park, one of Stockton’s most popular visitor attractions, is known for its Victorian heritage, lakeside walks and family-friendly facilities, while Wynyard Woodland Park attracts thousands of visitors with its extensive network of walking and cycling trails through ancient woodland.

Councillor Nigel Cooke, Stockton Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Culture, said: “The wonderful news that both Wynyard Woodland Park and Stockton’s Ropner Park have won Green Flag Awards is testament to the hard work and dedication of the teams that care for these popular green spaces so that residents and visitors alike can enjoy them all year round.

“This is a fantastic achievement. Congratulations to everyone involved in managing and maintaining Wynyard Woodland Park and Ropner Park, and for working tirelessly to ensure they achieve the high standards required for the Green Flag Award.”

The latest recognition means both sites continue to rank among a select group of parks and green spaces across the UK and beyond to meet the scheme’s high standards.
