Crime drama Professor T – which is set in Cambridge – is returning for a new series
ITV crime series Professor T is finally back after close to two years.
The drama, which is filmed in Cambridge, last aired new episodes in 2024. Fans have been waiting for more from lead character Jasper Tempest, a Cambridge criminology professor with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder who puts his amateur sleuthing skills to the test by helping police investigate crimes.
The wait is now over as the show, which has previously been spotted filming around Jesus Lane and near the Quaker Meeting House, returns to ITV tonight with its fourth series (Wednesday August 19).
The new series finds Jasper (played by former Death in Paradise star Ben Miller) reeling after season three’s dramatic finale, in which DS Lisa Donckers (Emma Naomi) died.
He busies himself with his university work and can no longer face helping the police crack complicated cases.
However, his therapist Dr Helena Goldberg, who is played by Juliet Stevenson, steps in and helps him to recover and to get back to sleuthing.
A synopsis says that the professor is then “reluctantly drawn back in to help unravel increasingly dangerous and complex crimes”.
Other episodes will see Jasper probing a baffling set of burglaries and investigating after an actress is stabbed on stage.
How to watch the new episodes of Professor T?
The fourth series of Professor T is due to start on Wednesday 19 August, airing at 9pm on ITV1.
In the episode, which is titled Overboard, a woman mysteriously disappears from a boat during a trip with her boyfriend and some friends.
The second instalment then follows on Wednesday August 26, and sees Zelda, Jasper’s quirky aunt (who is played by Zoe Wanamaker) take him along with her to a retirement home so that he can meet a man she is dating.
The series, which also stars Loose Women’s Sunetra Sarker as DCI Maiya Goswam and Frances de la Tour as Jasper’s mum Adelaide, will then continue to air on Wednesday evenings. It will also drop ‘soon’ on ITVX.
A fifth series of Professor T has already been filmed, and it is airing in the US.
Professor T returns on ITV on Wednesday August 19 at 9pm.
