Repairs to Westhoughton street with ‘significant elderly community’
Dale Street and Cedar Grove, Westhoughton, will undergo repair and resurfacing works from Tuesday May 26, with works expected to last about a week.
These particular roads were earmarked for repair specifically because of the large numbers of elderly residents nearby.

Westhoughton Cllr John McHugh said: “They do look bad, and they’ve been that way for a long time.
“It was a discussion between myself and former Cllr Wilkinson when we decided which roads needed looking at.
“There were other ones, but because there is a significant elderly community, these ones were prioritised.
“Apparently, the residents will be able to get through, except for at certain times – I imagine, directly after tarmacking.”
Dale Street is a cul-de-sac in Southeast Westhoughton/Daisy Hill.
Cedar Grove is more northern and central, off Townsfield Road.

Bolton Council posted notices to residents to alert them to the roadworks.
The notice stated: “We are writing to inform you that carriageway resurfacing work on Dale Street/Cedar Grove is scheduled to commence during the week beginning May 26 and is expected to take approximately one week to complete, weather permitting.
“Access to properties will be maintained throughout the works; however, there may be brief periods when access is temporarily unavailable during certain phases of the works.
“To assist with the smooth delivery of the scheme, we kindly ask that residents keep the affected roads clear of vehicles during the working day to enable the contractor to carry out the works safely and efficiently.

“Bin collections will continue to take place on your usual scheduled days.”
There are other roadworks taking place in Westhoughton at a similar time.
Westhoughton’s Back Ivy Road will be closed from June 1 due to water works.
Several bus stops will also be getting revamps, including those at Bolton Road, Deane Road/Salisbury Street, and Manchester Road.
