Richard Osman accidentally reveals Celebrity Traitors season 2 launch date

Richard Osman seems to have accidentally confirmed the launch date of the eagerly awaited Celebrity Traitors’ second series.

Pointless creator and House of Games host Richard had been joined by former celebrity Faithful Joe Marler on his The Rest is Entertainment podcast, which he hosts with journalist Marina Hyde.

Talk inevitably turned to the subject of Celebrity Traitors, when he was pressed for what advice he might give the new batch of contestants.

In doing so, the former English rugby union player seemed to let slip what date viewers can expect Celebrity Traitors’ second series to air on the BBC.

A flustered Richard appeared to confirm, adding that the date is ‘absolutely embargoed.’

‘The cat’s out of the bag, isn’t it?’ he added.

That date? ‘What is it, September 23, the next series?’ Joe had said.

‘By the way, to point out, it’s absolutely embargoed that it starts on September 23,’ Richard replied.

‘Let’s talk about what we call the events of September 23 this year.

‘The cat’s out of the bag isn’t it? Not to repeat it,’ he finished, after repeating it again.

So far, the BBC has not officially shared the date for the second series of Celebrity Traitors, although a new teaser trailer has been released.

In it, host Claudia Winkleman addresses the show’s latest line-up from within a Church – Faithful and Traitors both solemnly gathered within the pews.

This year’s celebrity Traitors line-up is as star-studded as the one which preceded it, with some A-listers in Richard E. Grant, Michael Sheen and Miranda Hart.

In a season dominated by comedians, Miranda will be joined by James Acaster, Joe Lycett, Romesh Ranganathan Rob Beckett and Joanne McNally.

Other names include former Corrie star (and Romesh’s Weakest Link voice-over artist) Julie Hesmondhalgh, singer James Blunt, actor Bella Ramsey and EastEnders star Ross Kemp.

Claudia will once again front the show from behind TV’s most impressive fringe, in a return to Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands.

It’ll be hoping to replicate the runaway success of last year’s show, which saw comedian Alan Carr storm to victory – in spite of his apparent inability to keep a straight face the whole time.

As for Joe, he made it all the way to the final, only to be betrayed by actor (and fellow Faithful!) Nick Mohammed at the last minute.

Ahead of the second series airing, Joe has been liberal with his advice.

When not accidentally letting cats out of bags, his top tip may be a surprising one – don’t fill up on the breakfast buffet.

Speaking to Metro in May, he told us: ‘Don’t eat too much breakfast in your own lodgings before going down to another breakfast.

‘I put on eight kilos doing it. So I said, just be careful what you’re eating in there.’

He also reflected on his own mistakes as a Faithful, admitting that he may have been a ‘bit full on’ in his final moments.

‘I creeped [Nick] out,’ he admitted. ‘When I turned around to him, and said, “Mate, I know you’re 100% faithful. I am too”.

‘It wasn’t until we watched it all back that he told me that was the moment. He was like, “Oh, am I being played here?” If I had my time again, I’d probably be less intense.’
