On Valentine’s Day, the Railway Touring Company is running a special service on a No.34067 steam train which has stops in Cambridgeshire. The steam train will take passengers from London to the historic city of York.

The experience starts with the train journey, which will allow you to see great views of the countryside. The train will follow the East Coast Main Line route which has been travelled by “famous express trains like the Flying Scotsman”.

The steam train will be stopping at Huntingdon station at 9.10am and at Peterborough station at 10am. On the journey, the steam train will climb up the “famous” Stoke Bank and will go through Trent Valley and onto Grantham, Newark and Retford.

After travelling through Doncaster, the train will carry on into York and arrive there at around 1.05pm. You will be given a few hours to explore the historic city of York, which has plenty of things to keep you occupied.

If you want to continue on the train theme, you could visit the National Railway Museum, which is the largest museum of its type in Britain and can be found right next to the railway station. The museum features a range of trains including a Japanese Bullet Train and the world’s fastest steam train.

You could wander through the centre of the city and take a look down the Shambles. You’ll find a range of independent shops to explore such as the viral York Ghost Merchants where you can buy your own little ghost to take home.

The steam train will be departing from York station at 4.10pm. The train will take a different route home through Lincoln and Spalding so you get to see even more of the country.

The train will get back to Peterborough at 7.05pm and to Huntingdon at 8.15pm. The price of the experience ranges from £115 to £329 for adults with a few family options available.

A standard ticket just includes a reserved seat on the steam train. If you want to add to the experience, you could opt for a First Class ticket, which includes a tea or coffee with a breakfast roll in the morning and an afternoon tea service that gets you a tea or coffee, a savoury snack, and a scone with jam and butter.

The Premier Dining experience gets you a full English breakfast and a four course dinner prepared on board and served at your seat. The Valentine’s White Rose experience can be booked through the Railway Touring Company’s website.
