The main event marks Rousey’s first MMA bout in a decade after she suffered back-to-back UFC knockout losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Since then Rousey has ventured into professional wrestling, making a huge splash in the WWE, where she made history at WrestleMania 34 in taking part in the first-ever women’s match to headline that event.

Upon leaving WWE in the autumn of 2023, Rousey had a brief spell on the independent circuit before making a return to wrestling earlier in the year, debuting in Ring of Honor (ROH), which is the sister show of AEW (All Elite Wrestling).

Now, Rousey aims to roll back the years when she was the most dominant fighter in women’s MMA, becoming the first female inductee of the UFC Hall of Fame in 2018.

Carano, meanwhile, is also coming off a long MMA hiatus. It is 17 years since her last bout, when she suffered her first-ever professional loss to Cris Cyborg in August 2009.

After stepping away from mixed martial arts, Carano’s focus has shifted to acting, appearing in several projects including Fast and Furious 6, Deadpool and The Mandalorian.

Given the length of time both competitors have been away from the MMA scene, it is safe to say we are not expecting a classic bout by any stretch of the imagination.

Still, it’s a highly-anticipated battle between between two iconic female fighters and both will have a point to prove.

Rousey is famed for her devastating armbar submission – something that she took into the WWE – and we think she will look to lock that in early on Carano for a quick win.
