Scania UK has officially opened new Stockton service depot

Scania UK has officially opened a new service depot in Stockton, replacing its long-standing Darlington operation after more than 40 years of service.

The depot offers expanded support for customers across Teesside’s industrial sector, including businesses in chemicals, steel, manufacturing, logistics and port operations.

At 2,281 square metres, the new workshop is more than triple the size of the former Darlington site, which had been operating close to capacity.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said the investment is a clear sign of rising confidence in the region and its growing opportunities.

He said: “Scania has been part of our region for decades. This £14million investment shows they’re backing its future too.

“Businesses don’t invest in bigger sites unless they can see opportunities to grow.

“As more companies choose to invest here, they need the facilities, the workforce and the confidence to support that growth. That’s why this matters.

“It’s another investment creating jobs, supporting local businesses, and helping keep our economy moving.”

The branch launches with a team of 34 employees, with plans to grow the workforce to 40.

The depot includes six inspection bays, three maintenance bays, two service pits and a gas bay.

It also features an authorised testing facility lane, an internal wash facility with water recycling, and equipment ready for diesel, gas and battery-electric vehicles.

The site also has the electrical capacity to support future heavy vehicle charging infrastructure.

Chris Newitt, managing director of Scania UK, said the investment reflects rising customer demand and the company’s commitment to the UK market.

Chris said: “Although we’ve had a presence in the Teesside area for more than 40 years, it was time to increase our workshop capacity and give our team all the tools to do their job today and support the vehicle technologies of the future.”

The Stockton branch has achieved accreditation from BREEAM – a sustainability assessment and rating system- for incorporating rooftop solar panels, a heat pump, underfloor workshop heating and environmental containment measures.

It is the latest in a series of upgrades across Scania’s UK network, which has also seen recent improvements at branches in Falkirk, Inverness, Preston, Warrington and Maidstone.
