Another man has been released back into prison custody whilst under investigation
Police have arrested a second man on suspicion of murder after a man died following an attack at Highpoint Prison in Suffolk. Another man has been released back into prison custody whilst under investigation.
Detectives were called to Addenbrookes’ Hospital at 11.11am on Tuesday January 27 following the death of a 28-year-old man. The deceased had been an inmate of HMP Highpoint Prison and had been admitted to Addenbrookes’ Hospital on Friday, January 23 following an attack by another prisoner.
He was transported to and treated in hospital, before returning to prison. He was then readmitted to hospital on the Tuesday where he died.
A Home Office post-mortem examination was conducted on Friday, January 30 and the cause of death will be subject to further investigation.
A man aged in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of murder on January 30. He was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning and has been released back into prison custody whilst under investigation pending further enquiries.
Today, Tuesday, February 3, a second inmate at Highpoint Prison has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The suspect, a man aged in his 30s, has been taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning. Police continue to work closely with HMP Highpoint to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
Formal identification of the deceased is yet to take place and the family are being supported by specialist trained officers.
