Speed limit in residential areas may be reduced to 20mph
If approved, the proposed changes would reduce the speed limit from 30mph to 20mph on certain streets in Helmsley.
Councillor George Jabbour, who represents the Helmsley and Sinnington Division on North Yorkshire Council, said: “Over the past few years, I have worked on a number of projects to address the concerns that I received from residents about speeding within the Helmsley and Sinnington Division that I represent on North Yorkshire Council.
“These include the vehicle activated speed sign on the road between Helmsley and Beadlam, a community speed watch scheme and a 20 mph speed limit in Sproxton.”
The roads affected by the proposal include Acres Close, Allenby Road, Chapel Close, Con Owl Close, Crosland Close, Riccal Drive, Rosedale Lane, Ryemount Crescent, Storey Close, and The Limes.
Cllr Jabbour said: “I would encourage local residents to express their support for this proposal by emailing traffic.management@northyorks.gov.uk or writing to North Yorkshire Council, Traffic Management, County Hall, Racecourse Lane, Northallerton, North Yorkshire DL7 8AD as soon as possible and no later than 22nd July 2026.”
