Stretford park taped off as police investigate reports of sex assault on teen girl

Parts of Victoria Park in Stretford were cordoned off tonight as police investigate reports that a teenage girl was sexually assaulted.

Police swooped on the park at around 6pm following reports that a teenage girl was sexually assaulted inside the park. Pictures from the scene showed police at the park, with a walkway and one area of woodland taped off.

Tonight Greater Manchester Police confirmed that an investigation was underway and that the alleged victim ‘is being supported’ by officers. No arrests have yet been made.

A statement from GMP said: “Greater Manchester Police is investigating a report of sexual assault that occurred shortly before 6pm today (21/07/2026) in Victoria Park, Stretford.

“No arrests have been made at this time. However, the victim is being supported and detectives are following up multiple lines of enquiry to piece together the full circumstances.”

The much-loved park is maintained by the Friends of Victoria Park which was set up in 2003 to revive it.

GMP has stressed how victims of sex crimes can access support services.
