When the 19-year-old drug dealer was arrested he had almost £10,000 in cash on him
A teenager has been jailed after he took police on a “reckless” high-speed chase through Barry while he was high on cannabis. The drug dealer had a Gucci bag with £13,000 worth of cocaine on him at the time of his arrest.
Cardiff Crown Court heard how in the early hours of November 17, 2025, 19-year-old Jack Finch was spotted by patrolling officers and signalled to stop. The Barry man sped off and a dangerous pursuit through the town ensued.
Finch reached speeds of 80mph in a 20mph zones and drove the wrong way around roundabouts, narrowly missing another motorist at one point. Don’t miss a court report by signing up to our crime newsletter here.
After roughly 10 minutes, Finch stopped the car and waved his hands from the driver side window. A subsequent roadside drug test found him to be under the influence of cannabis.
Police then carried out a search of his car and found a Gucci bag with £13,000 worth of cocaine inside, digital scales, cash and a baseball hat. Finch also had almost £10,000 in cash, cannabis bud and 10 bags of cookies containing cannabis.
Finch was charged with possessing with intent to supply cocaine, possessing with intent to supply cannabis, being concerned in the supply of cocaine, being concerned in the supply of cannabis, acquiring criminal property – namely money, driving a car dangerously, driving a car without a license, driving without insurance and driving whilst unfit through drugs.
He pleaded guilty to the offences and was sentenced to 32 months in a young offender’s institution.
Detective Constable Lloyd Willmott, from the Cardiff and Vale Organised Crime Unit, said: “Jack Finch led officers on a reckless and dangerous pursuit through Barry, knowing what he had in his car. He put himself, officers and members of the public in danger in a desperate bid not to get caught.
“But his choices caught up with him and it was only a matter of time before he was arrested – I hope he uses the time he has in a young offender’s institution wisely, to reflect on the choices he made. At 19 years-old, he has the opportunity to change and to turn his life around.”
