Teenager dies after being found in Dovestone Reservoir
Emergency services were called to Dovestone Reservoir this evening where they found a 18-year-old unresponsive in the water.
Despite, say police, the best efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene
Officers say that a scene remains in place and enquiries are ongoing.
Detective Inspector Steven Horton of the Oldham district said: “We have tragically recovered the body of an 18-year-old man from the water and are conducting extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances.
“Our thoughts remain with his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
“I would like to take this opportunity to remind the public of the dangers of open water. We strongly encourage people to stay safe and refrain from entering large bodies of water including reservoirs, rivers, canals, or ponds”
“Your safety is our priority. Please look after yourselves and enjoy the weather safely.”
This is the latest tragedy in which young people have been found dead after apparently getting into difficulties in the water as the region enjoys a heatwave.
Earlier this month a boy died in the water at Clifton Country Park.
A number of people have died there after going into the water.
The latest death comes as emergency services issue a warning for young people to enjoy the weather safely.
At least 15 people have died after getting into trouble in open water amid days of hot weather.
