GTA clones were a dime a dozen back in the day (Metro)
If the long wait for GTA 6 is starting to get to you, there are a lot of older games that should be able to scratch a similar itch.
Given how long it’s been since Rockstar Games has released a new GTA game (13 years this September!), it’s no wonder people are getting antsy about GTA 6 and its promised release date this year.
It’s still going to be a long wait for that November 19 launch date, though, and it’s entirely possible it will be delayed a third time, forcing fans to wait until 2027 to play it.
GTA 5 and its GTA Online multiplayer mode have helped keep people satiated this long, but what if you’ve had enough of that and yet still hanker for something similar? Well, there have been plenty of GTA clones over the years; some of which are worth playing today, even if they don’t reach quite the same highs as their inspiration.

PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, and PC
One of the earliest GTA clones, launching just a couple of years after GTA 3, True Crime: Streets Of LA is also one of the most brazen, lifting all the core elements of the series, including a city you can freely roam, full of vehicles to commandeer and innocent civilians to gun down or run over.
It’s also one of the more successful examples, proving to be decently enjoyable even if it lacked originality; although it led to a sadly inferior sequel. While publisher Activision has long since abandoned the series, you can grab a second-hand PlayStation 2 copy for as little as £3 from CeX.

Wheelman
Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC
Something of a cross between GTA and the Burnout racing games, Wheelman is most notable for starring Vin Diesel in the lead role. In fact, Diesel was heavily involved with developer Tigon Studios, which also co-developed his Chronicles Of Riddick games with the core team behind Indiana Jones And The Great Circle.
With Diesel being a fan of video games himself, we’re a little surprised he hasn’t pushed to re-release Wheelman. Although it’s let down by its on-foot mission, the actual driving is a lot of fun. You can grab an Xbox 360 copy for just £2.50 through CeX, but it’s unfortunately not backwards compatible with the Xbox Series X and, like True Crime, isn’t on Steam.

The Getaway
PlayStation 2
Aside from two London expansions for the very first GTA game, Rockstar has stuck to using American cities for the series. If you’ve ever wanted a 3D GTA game that lets you roam the city of London, then The Getaway is the next best thing.
Its recreation of London isn’t as accurate nowadays, but that makes it an interesting time capsule for anyone nostalgic for the 2000s. While you can get cheap copies from CeX, it’s strange Sony never moved to re-release it, considering it spawned the Gangs Of London TV show. Although VR title Blood & Truth was originally intended to be an official part of the franchise.

The Godfather
PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PSP, and PC
It came out more than 30 years after the movie (and turned 20 this week), but this adaptation of The Godfather was surprisingly decent for its time and is still regarded as one of the better GTA clones; one you can buy second-hand from places like musicMagpie.
Featuring several actors reprising their roles (including Marlon Brando’s final performance), you play as an original character doing jobs for the Corleone family. There’s been some demand for a remaster, but it’s probably impossible given how much renegotiating for actors’ likenesses would be needed.

Scarface: The World Is Yours
PlayStation 2, Xbox, Wii, and PC
Isn’t it strange that 2006 saw two famous gangster movies, both well over two decades old by the time the games came out, being turned into solidly entertaining GTA clones, that featured many of the original actors?
The Scarface game, however, diverged greatly from its source material, serving as an alternate universe sequel where Tony Montana survives and goes on a revenge spree. A quick Google search shows second-hand copies can be a bit pricey, with the cheapest we can find being the Wii version for £5 at CeX.
An alleged re-release popped up on PC storefronts last year, but it was just as quickly delisted and reportedly uses fan patches without permission, so it’s extremely unlikely it’ll ever be officially available.

The Simpsons: Hit & Run
PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, and PC
To this day, people are still demanding The Simpsons: Hit & Run see a re-release or remaster, especially now that the original developer, Radical Entertainment (which was also responsible for the Scarface game), has been revived.
While lacking guns, this Simpsons-ified take on the GTA formula was effectively authentic and, most importantly, quite funny. The game remains available through a fan-made PC mod (which saw a new update just this month) though you need to supply your own copy of the game.

Second-hand PC copies are rather expensive, although CeX is selling them for £15 at time of writing.
Sleeping Dogs
Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC
The next batch of examples are much easier to play nowadays since they’re available on modern platforms through their digital storefronts. That includes Sleeping Dogs, which started out as a True Crime sequel set in Hong Kong.
Activision sold the publishing rights to Square Enix, with Sleeping Dogs going onto become something of a cult classic thanks to its atmosphere, a fun world to explore, and plenty of entertaining (if unoriginal) activities.
Marvel actor Simu Liu is so much of a fan that he pushed to revive the cancelled movie adaptation, which he’ll also star in as undercover policeman Wei Shen.
A vast improvement over the first game, Watch Dogs 2’s shooting and driving mechanics were better than GTA 5’s and it also offered some unique ideas of its own, especially its hacking activities. Had the story and characters been more interesting, this could’ve been an even bigger hit.
Lego City Undercover
PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, and PC
Advertisement
Between its initial Wii U exclusivity and it not being based on a famous movie franchise like Star Wars, Lego City Undercover went unnoticed by many people. That’s such a shame, since it’s not only a good Lego game in its own right, but unironically one of the better GTA clones – and one of the very few suitable for kids.
It’s lost some of its uniqueness over the years, thanks to how old the formula of the Lego games has become, but the open world city is very well designed and full of things to find, and the script can catch you off guard with how genuinely funny it can be.
Saints Row 2
Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC
Advertisement
When people think of GTA clones, Saints Row is perhaps the first that comes to mind. Although its reputation has wavered thanks to the woeful 2022 reboot, which helped kill developer Volition.
After the first game was decried as a straight GTA clone, Saints Row 2 helped form more of an identity by focusing on humour and over-the-top gameplay; something the series doubled down on with the sequels, until the reboot.
Saints Row 2 is considered the best entry thanks to its absurd plot and side-activities and while the humour hasn’t aged gracefully since its 2008 release, we respect its refusal to take itself seriously.
The Xbox 360 version is backwards compatible on Xbox Series X, so you can download it for just £8.99, and the original PC version is usually available for £8.79 on Steam, although it’s currently discounted to the very low price of £2.19 until Thursday, March 26.

Volition also made the Red Faction series which at first was basically Saints Row set on Mars, but with a more serious storyline.
During a heated segment on immigration broadcast live on Channel 4 News, Sarwar accused Offord – a former Tory peer – of being “racist”. He added: “Malcolm, one of your candidates wants my children deported. Where do you want us to go?”
Offord responded that there was “no prospect” of him or his family being deported. The Reform UK leader added: “This is the third time on national TV you’ve called me racist.
“This does not square with you coming up to me at the start of this campaign, bouncing up to me in Paisley Town Hall, and saying we need to work together, Reform and Labour, to remove the SNP.”
Sarwar snapped back “utter nonsense” while John Swinney – standing between the pair – looked visibily surprised. The SNP leader has repeatedly warned voters that Scottish Labour would be prepared to do a deal with Reform UK, much to Sarwar’s anger.
Speaking to reporters after the debate in Maryhill, Sarwar said: “Claims of any backroom deal are absolute nonsense, it is a desperate lie from a desperate man.
“It is desperation from a party whose campaign has completely flunked.
“These are the same people who have spent tens of thousands of pounds on racist adverts targeting me, and whose candidates have made deeply racist remarks, including calls to deport all Muslims – which would include my own children.
“And for John Swinney to jump on this when he is happy to call out Reform’s lies and racism elsewhere, but somehow chooses to imply we are doing a deal with them when it concerns racism directed at me – is deeply disappointing.
“Our politics should be better than that, and frankly I thought John Swinney was better than that.
“I understand why he may think it is politically useful, but morally he should take a long, hard look at himself.
“Let me be unequivocal: no stitch-ups, no deals, no backroom chats, no back-channel contact with Reform. I only want one deal, and that is with the people of Scotland.”

Arsenal have a 1-0 advantage going into the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie on Wednesday night following their win in Lisbon last week.
Arsenal delivered an unconvincing performance in the loss at home to Bournemouth as they struggled to create clear-cut chances in attack and failed to beat the press from Andoni Iraola’s players in their own half.
If they eliminate Sporting on Wednesday night, Arsenal will play Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-final and Henry feels a positive result can help the team ‘make a statement’ in their crucial Premier League game against Manchester City this Sunday.
‘If you’re Sporting, if you see the way Man City played Arsenal and the way Bournemouth played Arsenal at the weekend, the way they put pressure in that 4-2-4 early doors, Arsenal didn’t have an answer on how to step out from that,’ Henry told CBS Sports.
‘I don’t know what Sporting are going to do, but yes, it is very important for Arsenal to win the game and make sure they can prepare for the game we are all waiting for, what time it is.
‘Because for a very long time, I wasn’t even focusing on Bournemouth, even before Bournemouth winning I wasn’t focusing on that, I wanted that game, if I was a player, I want to win at statement, I want to make a statement.
‘I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, but that’s what I’m waiting for.’

Asked if he prefers Arsenal to face Atletico Madrid after they knocked out Barcelona, Henry replied: ‘We will see. We need to beat Sporting.
‘They [Atletico] can celebrate, we’re not there yet.’
The work, led by the Environment Agency and carried out by Acumen Waste Services Ltd, will involve digging up and shifting 21,000 tonnes of waste, including tyres, shredded plastic and household rubbish from the illegal dumping site which covers 8,000 square metres – an area bigger than Wembley Stadium.
Some very worrying statistics for music venues across the country
00:01, 15 Apr 2026
Music Venue Trust’s annual report reveals worrying statistics
Northern Ireland has produced Snow Patrol, Two Door Cinema Club, The Undertones, Ash, Stiff Little Fingers, Gary Moore, Van Morrison and more from a population roughly the size of Greater Manchester. Every one of them learned their craft in grassroots music venues (GMVs). Now those venues are facing a very challenging and uncertain future.
Music Venue Trust (MVT) presented its Annual Report 2025 at Stormont on April 14 at a reception hosted by Matthew O’Toole MLA, Sian Mulholland MLA and Robbie Butler MLA.
For the first time in MVT’s eleven-year history, the report includes a dedicated section on Northern Ireland’s grassroots music venues following a year of targeted sector development work supported by Belfast City Council – and what the data shows is stark.
Seventeen active, dedicated grassroots music venues delivered 22,464 artist performances across 3,705 events in 2025, drawing over 460,000 audience visits. Their contribution to the Northern Ireland economy was £11.85 million. Yet only half of those venues made a profit.
Employment in the sector fell by 21 per cent in a single year, from 667 workers to 525. And live music, the thing these venues exist to provide, cost the sector £1.63 million more than it earned.
Beverley Whitrick, COO of Music Venue Trust, said: “MVT is incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from the Culture Team at Belfast City Council for our work in Northern Ireland, and the belief in the importance of GMVs shown by our host MLAs. Their assistance means that we have now been able to represent the vital contribution grassroots music venues make to the music ecosystem in all four nations of the UK, with events in every parliament. It has always been important to us to speak on behalf of GMVs across the whole of the UK so we are delighted that partners have enabled us to gather data to highlight the challenges for these venues, and an opportunity to lay out MVT’s plan for sector development.”

Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy, a long-term MVT patron who attended the Stormont reception, listed some of the country’s most famous musical legends: “Phil Coulter, Snow Patrol, Two Door Cinema Club, The Undertones, Clodagh Rogers, Van Morrison, Ash, Brian Kennedy, Therapy?, Mama’s Boys, D:Ream, Dana, And So I Watch You From Afar, Stiff Little Fingers, Gary Moore, David Holmes, The Divine Comedy”.
Adding that “Northern Ireland’s contribution to popular music has been vastly disproportionate to its tiny population. Along with the rest of the arts we have done our bit to challenge stereotypes, offset negativity and promote this brilliant little place. It was only by performing in small music venues around the province that I, and the aforementioned list of artists, became any good at all. Without them the next generation of Northern Irish stars will be unnecessarily stymied. This is not a charity case. This is a canny investment in the future.”
Throughout 2025, MVT worked closely with GMVs across Northern Ireland, delivering meetings, training, advice and support to enable participation in its Annual Survey and strengthen representation of the region within the UK-wide report. As a result, the 2025 report provides the most comprehensive picture to date of Northern Ireland’s grassroots music infrastructure and the venues that sustain it.
These findings underline both the cultural and economic importance of Northern Ireland’s grassroots music venues, and the urgent need for continued support to ensure their long-term sustainability.

Following the reception, which brought together venue operators, artists – including Hannon and Ciaran Lavery – policymakers and industry stakeholders, a Northern Ireland Venues Meeting took place at the Oh Yeah Music Centre in Belfast, focused on planning the next phase of development for the region’s grassroots music ecosystem.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The man accused of trying to kill OpenAI CEO Sam Altman by throwing a Molotov cocktail at his San Francisco home was experiencing a mental health crisis and has been overcharged by prosecutors, his public defender said Tuesday.
Daniel Moreno-Gama made his first court appearance on state charges with disheveled hair and wearing an orange jail uniform. The 20-year-old, whose attorney said is autistic, kept his gaze down during the brief hearing and softly answered “yes” when asked by a judge whether he agreed to continue his arraignment. San Francisco Judge Kenneth Wine ordered him held without bail and set his arraignment for May 5.
Authorities say Moreno-Gama, of Spring, Texas, hurled the incendiary device at Altman’s home Friday, setting an exterior gate on fire before fleeing on foot. Less than an hour later, Moreno-Gama went to OpenAI’s headquarters about 3 miles (5 kilometers) away and threatened to burn down the building, they said. They said he traveled to the city from Texas.
No one was injured at Altman’s home or the company’s offices. San Francisco Deputy Public Defender Diamond Ward called the case a “property crime, at best,” and said that prosecutors are pursuing higher charges to curry favor for Altman. Moreno-Gama also faces federal charges.
“It is unfair and is unjust for the San Francisco district attorney and the federal government to fearmonger and to exploit the mental illness of a vulnerable, young man by turning a vandalism case into an attempted murder, life exposure case to gain support of a billionaire, and to get political points at the expense of true justice for everyone involved,” Ward said.
San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins disputed that he was overcharged, saying Moreno-Gama carried out a “targeted attack on Mr. Altman” and that prosecutors had evidence to back up the charges. She said prosecutors would act the same whether the victim was a “billionaire or a CEO or any average San Franciscan.”
“Regardless of a victim’s status, they all deserve justice and they all deserve safety,” she said.
Moreno-Gama’s parents said in a statement he has never harmed anyone and recently began having mental health issues.
“We have been trying our best to address these issues and get him effective treatment, and we are very concerned for his well-being,” they said.
Authorities said Moreno-Gama, who works part-time at a pizzeria and is attending community college, expressed hatred of artificial intelligence in his writings, describing it as a danger to humanity and warning of “impending extinction,” according to court filings.
“This was not spontaneous. This was planned, targeted and extremely serious,” FBI San Francisco Acting Special Agent in Charge Matt Cobo said during a news conference Monday.
Moreno-Gama is charged in California state court with two counts of attempted murder and attempted arson. He tried to kill both Altman and a security guard at Altman’s residence, Jenkins alleged. Officials have not said whether Altman was home at the time, prosecutors said.
Jenkins said the state charges carry penalties ranging from 19 years to life in prison.
On Monday morning, FBI agents went to Moreno-Gama’s home in a Houston suburb where they spent several hours before leaving. He has also been charged by federal prosecutors with possession of an unregistered firearm and damage and destruction of property by means of explosives. Those charges carry respective penalties of up to 10 years and 20 years in prison.
“We will treat this as an act of domestic terrorism, and together with our partners, prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law,” U.S. Attorney Craig Missakian said.
The document in which Moreno-Gama discussed his opposition to AI also made threats against Altman and executives at other AI companies, officials said.
“If I am going to advocate for others to kill and commit crimes, then I must lead by example and show that I am fully sincere in my message,” Moreno-Gama wrote, according to authorities.
Advocacy groups that have issued grave warnings about AI’s risks to society condemned the violence.
Anthony Aguirre, president and CEO of the Future of Life Institute, said in a written statement Friday that “violence and intimidation of any kind have no place in the conversation about the future of AI.”
Another group, PauseAI, said in a statement that the suspect had no role in the group but joined its forum on the social media platform Discord about two years ago and posted about 34 messages there, none containing explicit calls to violence but one that was flagged as “ambiguous.”

Discord said Monday that it has banned Moreno-Gama for “off-platform behavior.”
He targeted businesses just days after getting a suspended sentence for similar offences
A prolific criminal targeted businesses in a spree of raids in Cambridge just days after getting a suspended sentence for similar offences. Robert Rust, 38, was given a suspended four-week jail term at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court for burglary and theft offences on March 19.
Days later, he stole a locked bike from racks at Cambridge Railway Station overnight, on March 21 to 22. He then tried to break into Dino’s Barbers, in Green End Road, Chesterton, in the early hours of March 22.
He was unsuccessful and instead broke into the Mermaid Chinese Takeaway next door, stealing a tip jar containing £10. Later the same day, Rust stole a locked e-bike from the bike racks at Parkside Pools.
He then targeted the Co-op, at Cambridge North Railway Station, four times in April, where he stole meat, alcohol, vapes and chocolate. Rust was identified from CCTV footage and arrested by officers in Maitland Avenue on Thursday (April 9).
On Friday (April 10), Rust pleaded guilty to three counts of theft, two counts of burglary, attempted burglary, theft of a pedal cycle and theft of a conveyance other than a motor vehicle or pedal cycle at Cambridge Magistrate’s Court. Rust of Minerva Way, King’s Hedges, Cambridge, was jailed for six months.

DC Sam Andrews, who investigated, said: “Rust causes nothing but misery for residents and businesses of Cambridge with his repeated burglaries and thefts. He clearly isn’t learning and we will continue to do everything in our power to bring him to justice so long as he continues offending.”

With the new teams chosen, it was up to Adam Thomas and Craig Charles to fight for glory on behalf of Jimmy, as Ashley Roberts and David Haye worked hard for Harry.
As the stars were tied to bungee ropes, they dug through mud to find golden nuggets. It was then revealed that Adam and Craig had collected more, and therefore won.
Upon returning back to their respective camps, tensions ran high as the Rhinos cheered loudly as they celebrated. With only a tall screen separating them, the Lion camp couldn’t hide their disappointment.
When it got to dinner time, Mo Farah had to be stopped as he tried to help the winning camp to cook their food, with Adam rubbing it in by adding: “That’s what winning tastes like”.

Anthony Joshua has been training with Oleksandr Usyk after his car crash and Usyk has predicted the outcome of the proposed November fight against Tyson Fury
Oleksandr Usyk is convinced Anthony Joshua will beat Tyson Fury and go on to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Joshua has been working alongside Usyk since making his comeback to the gym following a near-fatal car accident last December. The Briton intends to compete in July before ultimately resolving his decade-long rivalry with Fury in November. Joshua has not defeated a recognised boxer since stopping Otto Wallin nearly three years ago.
He subsequently knocked out MMA fighter Francis Ngannou before being brutally beaten by Daniel Dubois at Wembley. Joshua then stopped YouTuber Jake Paul last Christmas.
However, Usyk, who has triumphed over both Joshua and Fury on two separate occasions, is confident he can guide the former champion back to the summit.
“I know Anthony can do it because I look at how he is training; he’s a machine,” he said. “But I think he needs help and we are all people who support AJ. I am a football fan and sometimes my team loses, but I don’t say, ‘They’re bad’, I say, ‘These things happen and you must work harder’.”
“But sometimes people who support a team or a fighter, and they lose, they are negative. They are not fans, they are talking bulls***. We must help each other and if we don’t, we are not people, we are animals. I think he is ready to fight but he needs some time because he has a problem with his body after the crash.”
Fury stepped into the ring for the first time since his rematch loss to Usyk when he secured a points victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov last weekend. Usyk, who will put his world title on the line against kickboxing legend Rico Verhoeven next month, added: “It’s good that Tyson won. I was nervous in the first few rounds because Makhmudov landed some shots.
“I don’t know how Anthony beats Tyson. I’m not a good predictor so I don’t know if he knocks him out, but I believe AJ will do it.” Fury invited Joshua to share the Tottenham ring with him following his comeback victory but was rebuffed by his fellow Brit. However, his promoter Eddie Hearn remains confident a deal will be struck.
“We received the contract at the end of last week for two fights,” he said. “We’ve been going back and forward and my instruction from AJ is to make the fight and that’s what we’ll be trying to do. In the next two weeks, he will be signed off physically to return to proper full-time training.
“The deal we’ve been offered is not to fight Tyson Fury straight away; we expect him to be out in July and then to fight Fury in November.”
EXCLUSIVE: The Scottish Labour leader gave a commitment to meeting the 2030 anti-poverty targets.
21:00, 14 Apr 2026Updated 21:57, 14 Apr 2026
Anas Sarwar promises to lift over 100k children out of poverty if elected
Anas Sarwar has promised to lift over 100,000 Scots kids out of poverty if he becomes First Minister.
He said a Scottish Labour Government would hit legally binding targets to slash poverty levels by 2030.
The Glasgow MSP also insisted he can still win the Holyrood election despite being over twenty points behind the SNP in the opinion polls.
With just over three weeks to go, Sarwar is facing the biggest challenge of his political career in turning around a massive SNP lead.
But with around four in ten Scots still not sure how they will vote on May 7th, he believes it is all to play for.
In an interview with the Daily Record podcast Planet Holyrood, Sarwar said the Nationalists can be toppled.
“The people who decide this election are the people that vote in this election. Opinion polls are a snapshot of a sub-section of the population.
“People should vote for what they want to happen on May 7th and after 20 years of SNP government, I’m arguing we need change and give me five years to do things differently here in Scotland.”
He also spoke of his commitment to hitting the tough statutory target set by Holyrood on combating child poverty.
Around 21% of kids are currently in poverty and the Government has a target of this figure falling to below 10% in four years.
Another 110,000 children need to be taken out of poverty for the target to be met and Sarwar has promised to do it.
“Our ambition is to meet our child poverty reduction target in the next Parliament. That would lift around 100,000 kids out of poverty. “
He added: “I am confident, but it’s hard work. It’s ambitious, but that’s what you should expect from your government in Scotland. And so I believe we can achieve that.”
He said his anti-poverty strategy is less about topping up benefits and more about tackling “structural” issues that stop people from working.
Sarwar said he will boost tax-free childcare for parents, introduce breakfast clubs in all primary schools, create 9,000 apprenticeships and give young people the skills they need.
He also said he will reduce school meal debt, help tenants save on rent and tackle the scandal of child homelessness.
Sarwar said of hitting the target: “I think for too long the SNP argument has been that the one route to lift kids out of poverty in this country is purely through welfare, or by setting up another public sector quango. That’s not what I fundamentally believe.
“I think the best route of lifting children out of poverty and giving our young people a chance is by giving them the adequate skills, giving them access to a well paid job.
“It is a programme that lifts people out of poverty.”
He added: “If you’re giving me the choice, do you give a young person a welfare payment, or do you give them a skill and a job? I will always choose [to] give them a skill and a job because that’s how you defeat structural property and lift families out of poverty and have social mobility.”
Sarwar’s wider approach is to back deliverable policies and go further, such as on cutting income tax, if the economy grows.
But the Scottish Labour leader has faced claims his manifesto is too cautious and does not present a bold alternative to the SNP.
He said: “It is an honest manifesto about our ambitions and of course we want to go even beyond our ambitions if we meet our growth targets. But I’ve deliberately taken an approach in this election campaign and in this manifesto. People have heard big promises from politicians that they haven’t delivered.
“I’m going to give the kids the teachers, the classroom assistants, the apprenticeships, the skills, the jobs they need, so we can confront the big challenges facing our country. So this is a manifesto that is about fixing the mess, getting the basics right in this country, but also building institutions that will last in the longer term.”
Sarwar knows he has a mountain to climb if he is to win, not only eating into the SNP’s lead but also winning back votes from the right wing Reform.
He said: “Reform have accepted they can’t win this election. You heard that from Nigel Farage directly yesterday. They never could win the election, but at least they’re now accepting they can’t win this election.
“All Reform can be is noise in this election and trying to divide us. So they don’t offer change, they can only stop change.
“The SNP can’t offer change because they’ve had 20 years. If they had a good idea, they would have implemented it by now.”
He added: “Am I pretending to you that I can deliver utopia in five years? No, I’m not. But can I promise you that you’ll have a First Minister that shares your ambition and your aspiration, that you will have a government that works as hard as you do, and that we will leave this country a better place than we found it? Absolutely.”
A possession order was granted by Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court for 34A Cecil Street after extensive attempts were made to provide support to the tenant, the local authority said.
Through its Community Safety Partnership work, the council worked closely with Greater Manchester Police and local partners to enforce the order, with the aim of protecting the wellbeing and safety of neighbouring residents.
The council received numerous reports of anti‑social behaviour connected to the tenant at the property. The behaviour included intimidation, nuisance incidents and an assault on a neighbouring resident. Residents also reported feeling distressed and unsafe as a result.
Multiple steps were taken before court action was pursued, including warnings, an anti‑social behaviour injunction, a notice of seeking possession and referrals for support. Despite these interventions, the behaviour continued.
In a statement, Wigan Council said: “We have a duty to protect residents from persistent anti-social behaviour.
“This possession order was only taken after extensive attempts to offer support and secure positive change.”
