The Glasgow-born band had been set to perform at the city’s O2 Academy on Thursday, February 26, and Friday, February 27, but in a statement shared on social media on Monday, they confirmed the shows could not go ahead.

“All original tickets will remain valid for the new dates, and promoters are working to reroute the tour,” the band said, adding that all their summer festival appearances will continue as planned.

The statement continued: “We are really sad to announce that our Costello Music 20th Anniversary tour has been postponed. Unfortunately, Jon is unable to perform right now due to ongoing health issues. With the tour so close, it breaks our musical hearts to take this decision, but in light of medical advice, it’s the only sensible option.”

Reflecting on their early days, the band added: “Not long after The Fratellis were born, we faced a far more serious medical obstacle that should have ended our dream there and then. The thing is, we just refused to accept that we couldn’t do what we set out to do. Taking no for an answer was no answer at all. We had stuff to do. We were going where we were going. End of.”

The trio reassured fans they are “doing everything possible” to announce new tour dates as soon as possible and expressed excitement about seeing audiences at their summer shows.

“We were blown away by the reaction to this tour and can only promise that we are as disappointed as you at having to wait a little longer to celebrate Costello Music’s 20th birthday. We love you all. Mon The Fratellis.”
