However, one truly unique museum offers children and parents an opportunity to learn some new facts and make memories as a family. The Museum of Zoology in Cambridge displays thousands of specimens, spanning the entire animal kingdom.

From elephants and giraffes to birds and reptiles, there’s something for every visitor to take interest in. Not only is the museum one of Cambridge’s major attractions, but the museum says its collections are among the best in the world.

Ideally situated on Downing Street, in the heart of the city, visitors can access it via the train, taxis, and buses. The Museum of Zoology is a 20-minute walk from Cambridge railway station. There is also parking nearby at the Grand Arcade.

Hidden in plain sight, the museum features some astonishing treasures such as specimens that were discovered by well-known naturalists including Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace.

Something no visitor can miss is the museum’s Whale Hall at the entrance. It has been designed to house its 21-metre long Fin whale.

The museum is free to all and opens between Tuesdays and Sundays, from 10am until 4.30pm most days. On Sundays it opens slightly later at 12pm. It is closed on Mondays, except for bank holidays.

The much-loved museum has a shop and The Whale Café to make a day of it. The café is open between Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10am until 3pm.
