Real thought and effort has gone into creating the menu here
This little cafe in Stranmillis is somewhere I had walked past a few times but had never tried. However, when I noticed on social media they were doing ‘Zulu After Dark’ I was intrigued.
Cafe Zulu is open 7 days a week until 4pm but a few weeks ago they announced they would open late on a Wednesday and Thursday. The menu for this is elevated classics that will have something for everyone.
What we ordered:
- Shredded beef bao buns which came with spring onions, carrot, sesame and with a side of Asian fries.
- Nduja vodka rigatoni which came with garlic flatbread on the side.
- A portion of chips.
- Two soft drinks.
What we liked:
I’m going to start with the cafe and the staff which were both incredibly warm and welcoming. The cafe was decorated beautifully and was the perfect size. The staff from start to finish couldn’t have done more from us and it was probably some of the best service I’ve had in a while.
The food was genuinely delicious here and I was really shocked to be honest. I didn’t expect it to be of as high a quality as it was. The pasta had just the right amount of sauce and the flavours were all there in it.
The bao buns were the star of the show for me and I definitely recommend getting those. The presentation of the food was also really nice and it was clear that thought had gone into how each dish would look on the plate and that does add something to the experience.
What I would change:
The garlic flatbread that came with the pasta was a little lacklustre in my opinion but that is just me trying to find a fault in it.
How much it cost:
Everything we got came to £29 all together. I think given the service and the quality of the food it was worth the price in my opinion.
Zulu After Dark is honestly one of my favourite places I’ve tried recently and I think it’s somewhere you should add to your list. You can tell real care and attention has gone into curating this menu. I really enjoyed my meal here and I think it’s definitely somewhere you should add to your list.
