Five things to do in Greater Manchester this weekend (May 9-10)

  1. Happy Mondays’ stars Bez and Shaun Ryder will be hosting a free daytime rave at The Deansgate pub on Saturday from 12pm. They will be joined by DJ Jon Dasilva for a Hacienda-themed party, which will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Running til 5pm, it’s part of Greene King’s ‘Home at Your Local’ campaign to highlight how pubs often are considered a second home to many of us. The pub is on M3 4LQ.
  2. Saturday will also mark Bramhall Day! Taking place from 10am to 3pm at Bramhall Village Square, there will be a range of activities to take part in and markets to browse. Game café Outside the Box, pottery painting studio Ceramics & Chill, bike shop Trek and frozen yoghurt spot FRURT will be amongst those taking part with taste sessions, activations and more fun. They’ll also be plenty of live music too. More details here.
  3. Collaborative artwork, BMX displays, DJ sessions and family-friendly crafts will be the name of the game on Saturday over at Station South in Levenshulme. The free Cycle Fest festival will offer a day-long celebration of cycling culture – including the chance to discover pedal-powered music and to take part in an LED ride. Come with a bike or don’t, there will also be cake and tea available! All the info here.
  4. An artisan market will be held at Victoria Baths on Sunday (May 10) featuring more than 70 stalls filled with products designed and made by local and independent creatives. Entry is free, and it will include prints from Different Day, flowers and gifts from Block and Bobbin, soap and candles from Herd & Elder, and much more. There will also be a tea room inside the venue, and a chance to explore the spectacular architecture of the stunning building. The market runs from 11am to 4pm. More details on Instagram.
  5. Glossop, which is just 35 minutes from Manchester by train, will be hosting a three-day creative festival this weekend. First up, on Saturday, there will be the Derbyshire Makes Glossop Festival Day – a free, family-friendly celebration of creativity featuring a mix of live performances, storytelling, workshops and a makers’ market. On Sunday, a free Dare to Dream Sewing Bee will be held at Glossop Market Hall. The drop-in event will serve as a great introduction to stitching with no experience necessary.
