Liam was last seen heading towards Wylam from Wylam Bridge, in Northumberland, shortly after midnight in the early hours of Saturday morning (Aug 15).

The 22-year-old, from Northumberland,  is described as a white man, 6ft 3ins tall, of medium build with dark hair. He has tattoos down his right arm.

He was last seen wearing black joggers, black Nike trainers, a black T-shirt with large text and a diamond logo on the back, and a gold chain.

Northumbria Police said extensive enquiries are ongoing to locate him, and officers and family are growing increasingly concerned for their welfare.

“Liam or anyone who knows where he might be, should send us a DM on social media or use the live chat and report forms on our website,” a spokesperson said.

Health experts have warned that when you eat your evening meal could be just as important for your health as the food you’re having

Studies have shown that the timing of your evening meal can have a much bigger impact on your health than many people expect. In particular, your blood glucose levels.

Blood glucose levels are a primary risk factor for serious conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The experts explained: “Insulin sensitivity changes throughout the day to align with your body’s circadian rhythm. Eating counter to these biological rhythms may lead to impaired glucose control over time.”

When is the best time to eat dinner?

There is no universal ‘exact time’ that will work for everybody as everyone will be slight different, but health experts say there may be an optimal timeframe according to your sleep schedule. VeryWellHealth stated: “Eating dinner more than two hours before bed may improve blood sugar control”.

They continue: “While there is no single perfect dinnertime for everyone, a randomised controlled study found that having dinner within two hours of bedtime impairs the body’s ability to regulate blood sugar after a meal.

“The results suggest that avoiding dinner near bedtime may help support healthier glucose regulation by synchronising food intake with your body’s natural circadian rhythms.”

A randomised crossover trial involving healthy adults using continuous glucose monitoring found that eating an early dinner at 6pm “improved both 24-hour blood glucose control and lipid metabolism at breakfast the next morning”, compared to when participants consumed an identical dinner at 9pm.

Another study revealed that eating a late dinner at 10pm “was associated with higher overnight blood glucose, higher insulin concentrations, and lower fatty acid oxidation in a group of healthy adults, compared with eating the same meal” at 6pm.

Moreover, according to a study published on the National Library of Medicine, “studies show that consuming meals later in the day is associated with an elevated prevalence of metabolic disorders, while early time-restricted eating, such as having an early breakfast and an earlier dinner, improves levels of glucose in the blood and substrate oxidation. Circadian hormones, including cortisol and melatonin, interact with mealtimes and play vital roles in regulating metabolic processes”.

Taken together, these findings indicate that overall wellbeing may be enhanced by eating in harmony with the body’s internal clock. By understanding how to prevent impaired glucose tolerance, you could also lower your risk of developing diabetes and heart disease.

The dog has since been seized by police.

A man has died after being mauled by a dog.

The 55-year-old man was attacked by the canine on a path in the Calder Grove area of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, on Saturday afternoon. The Mirror reports that the victim was raced to hospital in a critical condition but died a short while later.

Another 55-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and being the owner of a dog dangerously out of control in a public place causing injury. The dog believed to have been involved has since been seized by police.

A statement from West Yorkshire Police says: “An investigation has been launched into the death of a man following an altercation in the Calder Grove area of Wakefield yesterday afternoon (Saturday August 15). The man’s death is being investigated by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team and detectives are making an appeal for any witnesses to come forward, particularly two people who stopped to assist the injured man.

“Police received calls from 1.36pm reporting an altercation that had taken place a short time earlier on the old trainline footpath off Blacker Lane during which a man had been bitten by a dog.

“The 55-year-old man was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died shortly after 7pm last night. A 55-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and being the owner of a dog dangerously out of control in a public place causing injury and is currently in custody.

“A dog, which is understood to have been the one involved in this incident, has been seized by police.”

Twelve people have been killed after a Polish tourist bus crashed and flipped over off a road in Hungary. 

The bus was travelling on the M3 motorway, around 90 miles from the nation’s capital of Budapest, at 1.00am on Sunday when the vehicle overturned.

It was likely that the driver fell asleep at the wheel and has since been taken into custody, police said.

Ten people among the 57 passengers and two drivers onboard were also injured in the crash.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki expressed his ‘deep sorrow’ after the accident.

He wrote on X: “I join the families and loved ones of the victims in prayer and deep sympathy.” 

Pictures of the badly-damaged bus show it lying at the bottom of a grass verge on the side of the motorway.

Suitcases and belongings can be seen strewn across the ditch next to the bus wreckage.

Several of the passengers were trapped under the vehicle when it flipped as it crashed, Hungary’s National Directorate for Disaster Management said in a statement.

All of the passengers on the bus were Polish citizens, Polish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maciej Wewiór confirmed.

The bus travelled from Poland’s southeastern Podkarpackie region and passengers were returning from a pilgrimage in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar offered his condolences to the families of the victims and thanked rescue workers who responded to the crash.

A police officer who killed his lover after she exposed their affair will be freed early under Labour’s release scheme, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

In a scandalous move, Timothy Brehmer, who was jailed for strangling Claire Parry to death in 2020, could be free to walk the streets by this time next year after serving just over half his sentence.

It adds to growing anger over plans to release two of PC Andrew Harper’s killers.

The news comes despite the fact that Brehmer, a constable with Dorset Police, had three years added to his sentence by the Court of Appeal as it was found to be ‘unduly lenient’.

Brehmer, then 41, killed mother-of-two Mrs Parry in a pub car park after she told his wife of their ten-year affair. He initially lied about the crime, claiming the nurse practitioner had died accidentally during a ‘kerfuffle’.

He was controversially cleared of murder, and was jailed for ten-and-a-half years for manslaughter.

But the sentence was increased to 13-and-a-half years when Brehmer applied to the Court of Appeal for leniency. A judge found ‘too little weight’ had been given to ‘aggravating factors’ such as his ‘lies’ and ‘conduct’ in the aftermath of the attack.

It meant he would have stayed behind bars until at least 2029.

But now, Brehmer could be among thousands of other killers and violent offenders due to be released under the Government’s early release scheme as early as June 2027.

Tory home affairs spokesman Chris Philp said last night: ‘This vile criminal killed an innocent young woman. Releasing him early is an insult to her memory and sends a signal that this Labour Government doesn’t take domestic killings and domestic abuse seriously.’

Mr Philp added: ‘The Government must urgently cancel their early release Act and introduce emergency legislation to ensure dangerous and serious criminals stay in prison.’

It adds to fury over Labour’s early release scheme, which is designed to relieve prison overcrowding but which will see eligible prisoners released after serving as little as a third of their sentences.

Around 5,000 inmates were set to be freed in September, but this has been paused until at least October amid mounting anger. Andy Burnham says it will now be subject to an ‘urgent review’.

PC Harper, 28, was killed in 2019 when he was dragged by a car down a country road in Berkshire as three teenagers fled the scene of a quad bike theft. Two of the passengers in the car, Jessie Cole and Albert Bowers, were sentenced to 13 years but could be released next year.

Brehmer’s trial heard that Mrs Parry had become suspicious that he was also involved with other women and had asked him to meet her outside a pub in West Parley, Dorset, on May 9, 2020.

During the meeting in his car, she took his phone and texted his wife, saying: ‘I am cheating on you.’

Brehmer said he then strangled Mrs Parry by accident in his car, and claimed that his arm ‘must have slipped in all the melee’.

He later attempted to cover up the crime by using a knife to wound himself, claiming he had been stabbed by Mrs Parry, a statement he later retracted. She died the day after the attack, at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

Brehmer, of Hordle, Hampshire, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, before a jury at Salisbury Crown Court cleared him of murder.

Mrs Parry’s husband, Andrew, said he was ‘incredibly disappointed’ in the verdict.

In a statement at the time, Mr Parry, who was also a Dorset Police officer, said: ‘He’s the worst kind of thief. He’s stolen a mother, a wife and daughter.’

The MoJ said: ‘We inherited a prison system on the brink of collapse. We are fixing this by building 14,000 new prison places, expanding electronic tagging and investing in probation services.’

Daniel Smith, 40, of Topcliffe Street in Hartlepool, is set to appear in the dock at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Monday (August 17). 

It follows an incident on Grosvenor Street just before 4pm on Friday (August 14) when a man reportedly approached a child, who was on a bike, and attempted to grab them.

They were detained by a member of the public and police later arrested a British man.

Detectives have now charged Smith with attempted kidnap.

He has been remanded in custody ahead of the court appearance.

She said: “Residents in the area say they first saw police in a the park at around 7pm last night.

“One resident who lives near the park said they saw at least ten police cars last night after the incident and multiple ambulances.

“Three people were ‘working really hard’ and performing CPR on the victim before he sadly passed away.

“There were many rumours circulating about the incident over night that have been stopped by the police update, he added.

“The resident added that finding out a murder had taken place outside his house was ‘awful’.”
