A young man was filmed allegedly taking a food order from a delivery bike on South Bridge as shocked diners watched on.

A brazen thief has allegedly been caught on camera stealing a food delivery from an Uber Eats bike in the middle of an Edinburgh street.

The incident happened on South Bridge, near Pepe’s Piri Piri, at around 9.35pm on Sunday and was filmed by a shocked diner.

Footage appears to show a young male dressed in black climbing onto the parked bike and fooling around before opening the delivery box and taking what appears to be a takeaway order.

The individual is then seen walking away with the item as a group of friends watch on.

It has not been confirmed whether the incident was reported to Police Scotland.

The alleged theft comes after concerns were previously raised over the safety of delivery riders working across Edinburgh.

Data gathered by a workers’ rights group and reported by the Daily Record in March found dozens of riders claimed they had faced violence, accidents and theft while carrying out deliveries in the capital.

Around 30 workers said they had been assaulted while on the job, while a similar number reported being involved in accidents. More than 20 said they had been victims of theft, with many having their bikes stolen.

Chief Superintendent David Robertson previously said: “We do see far too many instances of gig workers being the victim of criminality when they’re out and about working hard.”

NEW YORK (AP) — A fifth person has died in a Legionnaires’ disease outbreak in New York City, health officials said Tuesday night.

The New York City Health Department said it has confirmed the presence of the bacteria in 34 cooling towers in 33 buildings, all of which are being cleaned. Officials still haven’t identified the source of the bacteria that has sickened more than six dozen people in the last month.

No new patients have come forward with symptoms in the last 10 days, the department said in a news release.

Legionnaires’ disease, a form of pneumonia, is treatable but kills about 10% of patients, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It’s caused by Legionella bacteria, which grow in warm water and can spread in such places as hot tubs and building cooling equipment. People may contract the disease by inhaling contaminated water droplets, but it doesn’t spread person-to-person.

Eight people are still hospitalized and 56 others have spent time in but been discharged from hospitals in the Upper East Side outbreak, officials said.

The city is cleaning and disinfecting a total of 82 cooling towers in 80 buildings, they said.

Inspections have shown that some of the tony neighborhood’s fancy apartment buildings, private schools and renowned museums had traces of Legionella bacteria in their air-cooling equipment — despite new regulations that upped testing requirements just this spring, and despite a budget boost to hire more inspectors.

Some owners of buildings that tested positive have said they have worked to stay on top of any Legionella threat. The Guggenheim Museum, for instance, said in a statement that an outside company tests and treats the institution’s cooling tower every month.

The situation is avoidable and frustrating, said Jory Lange, a Texas attorney who represents over 50 people who were affected by an outbreak last year that killed seven people and sickened over 100 in New York’s Harlem neighborhood. He’s representing at least three patients who are recovering in the Upper East Side outbreak.

“There’s no excuse for this to keep happening,” Lange said. “New York already has the best and strongest regulations … and yet this still keeps happening.”

New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Alister F. Martin said in a statement that the department’s quick action after the first two confirmed cases “saved lives.” Martin said the department will learn what happened from the ongoing investigation and update policies and procedures with the goal of preventing future outbreaks.

Police have charged a 16-year-old boy with murder after finding his mother dead in an alleged stabbing on Tuesday morning in after CCTV captured his sister, 12, running for her life

The horrifying moment a 12-year-old girl ran for her life after her brother allegedly killed her mother has been captured on camera.

The girl was seen dashing through the streets of Perth, Western Australia (WA), early on Tuesday morning (July 21). CCTV footage from neighbours shows the child, wearing her pyjamas and dressing gown, running at speed just a minute after emergency services were called to her family home close by.

Detectives have since confirmed her mother has died in an alleged stabbing. Australian cops have charged the girl’s 16-year-old brother with murder.

Det Act Insp Jessica Securo recounted details of the incident to reporters on Tuesday: “Today, I’m here to inform the community of a tragic event that occurred in Bentley this morning.

“At approximately 6:15am today, Tuesday, the 21st of July, 2026, WA police received reports of a serious incident at a residence in Mills Street in Bentley.

“Police attended the location where they located a 35-year-old female, deceased. A short time later, a 12-year-old girl was located with serious injuries at a nearby location.

“A 16 year old male, who is the son of the deceased female, and the brother of the injured girl, has been taken into police custody. I can confirm there is no ongoing risk to the wider community.”

The girl was found around 600m away from her family home, having run along the Albany Highway to flee the terror, reports the Daily Mail.

Police added she is now in hospital. Det Act Insp Securo continued: “This incident will have a significant impact on the family, friends, and loved ones of all those involved, as well as the broader community.

“Our thoughts are with them all, particularly the 12 year old girl, who remains in hospital receiving treatment. We ask that her privacy be respected during this investigation.”

On Wednesday (July 22), the 16-year-old boy appeared before Perth Children’s Court. He was charged with two crimes overnight, a WA police spokesperson said: “The 16-year-old Bentley male has been charged with 1x murder [and] 1x Attempted Unlawfully to Kill.

“He is due to appear before the Perth Children’s Court today, July 22, 2026.”

In Wednesday’s update, police added the 12-year-old girl remains in hospital. They continued: “About 6.15am Tuesday, police were called to a residence on Mills Street where they located the deceased woman.

“A short time later, a 12-year-old girl was located with serious injuries at a nearby location on Albany Highway in Cannington. She was provided emergency first aid and conveyed to hospital where she is currently receiving medical treatment and support.”

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Stephen Curry is headed to the Hall of Fame, making more basketball history with a first-of-its-kind exhibit for an active player.

Stephen Curry: Beyond the Arc is set to open Friday, celebrating the career of a two-time MVP and the NBA’s career leader in 3-pointers.

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced the exhibit Tuesday, saying it was the first time in the museum’s nearly 75-year history that an active player would have a dedicated feature experience.

“When I think about my journey, I think about the people who believed in me, the work that happened when nobody was watching and the moments that shaped me on and off the court. To have that story told while I’m still playing is something I don’t take lightly,” Curry said in a statement. “My hope is that fans walk through this experience and feel the joy, the purpose and the gratitude that basketball has given me, and maybe see a little bit of their own journey in it too.”

Developed in partnership with Curry’s Thirty Ink business team, the exhibit will feature video footage of Curry’s career, memorabilia and audio and video components that tell the story of a player who was overlooked going into college and has gone on to become a 12-time All-Star who led Golden State to four NBA championships.

“For him to become the first active player to have an exhibit in the Basketball Hall of Fame is a testament to what he represents to the game, to the Warriors, to the NBA and to his millions of fans around the world,” Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy said. “Obviously, this is only a prelude to his eventual induction in Springfield, but a fitting tribute to an iconic player and an amazing human being who has single-handedly changed the game.”

The Hall of Fame expects Curry’s to be a limited time exhibit, likely to last through the summer of 2027 before closing.

A Peak District pub landlady has hit out about ‘extremely rude customers’ after a man reportedly reduced staff to tears.

The Winking Man is a country pub sitting on the busy A53 between Leek in the Staffordshire Moorlands and Buxton in Derbyshire.

In a post on the pub’s Facebook page on Tuesday night, landlady Julie Harvey wrote: “In the last 24 years of being a landlady I have never had to refuse food service to extremely rude customers thinking its okay to abuse our staff and still get food.

Recent YouGov polling on America’s rather colourful lexicon for its own President comes about a year and a half into Trump’s second term – and things aren’t going well, as per the numbers

Americans are 18 months into a second presidential term of Donald Trump and they’ve been asked to share how they would describe the 47th President of the United States.

The results, as it turns out, aren’t great for the US President, with “dangerous” now the number one adjective preferred by his fellow Americans.

It would seem things aren’t going so well in the White House, as a range of other terms also cropped up in a recent YouGov poll. While 52% said dangerous, 49% of Americans also used “corrupt”. A further 45% of them described him as a “racist”, while also calling him “out-of-touch”.

There also were a number of positive words used to describe the US President, with the majority of the positive polls coming from Republican voters. Such positive terms included “honest” – used by 45% of Americans to describe Trump – and “inspiring” (40%). A further 38% described Trump as “intelligent”.

Democrats tended towards the less flattering terms, as per the data.

The latest YouGov polling on America’s rather colourful lexicon for its own President comes as Trump’s approval rating continues to decline. Trump’s net approval rating in the latest poll sat at negative 24 per cent, which is lower than the same point in both his first term and the last term of his key Democratic rival Joe Biden.

His second term has been stained with a number of controversies; most notably, the sluggish release of the Epstein files, as well as his immigration crackdown which saw controversial and at-times lethal tactics used by ICE agents, and his unpopular war with Iran that has seen the cost of living skyrocket not just in America, but around the globe.

As far as the numbers go, 54 per cent of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of immigration, while just 39 per cent approve, according to the new poll. 54 per cent of respondents also disapproved of Trump’s handling of race relations, while 32 per cent approved.

Trump, however, fared a bit better on crime. A total of 49 per cent were in disapproval, but that was in comparison to a 41 per cent approval rating, a slightly stronger figure.

Trump, however, has not lost a moment to toot that particular horn. He urged the US Senate to confirm Todd Blanche as US attorney general last week, taking to his preferred social network, Truth Social, to write: “Under Todd’s incredible leadership at DOJ, Murder is down to the LOWEST level since 1900, and we just saw the biggest one year drop in RECORDED HISTORY.”

Records do confirm Trump’s claims of the biggest single year drop as homicides in major US cities have dropped sharply by over 20 per cent in 2025, following steep declines in 2023 and 2024. This does, in fact, mark the largest single-year percentage drop in recorded US history.

However, the lowest murder rate since 1900 is a murky claim as the FBI didn’t standardise this sort of data until in 1960. But, that being said, if we’re using the same consistent, apples-to-apples dataset, the current murder rate is definitively at its lowest point in at least 65 years. Prior to 1960, crime reporting across states and local jurisdictions was inconsistent, incomplete, and measured differently. So that claim is very difficult to verify with 100% certainty due to changes in methodology, as per crime analysts.

Fact checking Trump’s murder claims aside, poor public opinion of the US President can really hinder the chances of his fellow Republicans in the November midterm elections. Historically, the party in the White House ends up losing seats in Congress halfway through the presidency, which could see a negative option gain enough momentum to have catastrophic effects.

CNN Chief Data Analyst Harry Enten said on Monday (July 20) that while the Democrats have an average four-point lead on a generic House ballot – as per in recent polling from The Washington Post and CNBC – this time around it is a slimmer margin than past midterm election cycles.

“Yes, they’re ahead, but they’re ahead…by only four points, which is significantly less than what we saw in 2018 and 2006, when Democrats took back the House,” he said, adding the numbers were a “warning sign”. Perhaps a warning that momentum is growing… and not in favour of the US’ current “dangerous” President.

The third soldier killed in an Iranian strike on a base in Jordan on Friday has been identified as a 28-year-old New York resident.

Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 28, of Ozone Park, was one of three US service members killed when Iranian forces attacked the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base on Friday, the Pentagon announced on Tuesday.

She had previously been listed as missing in action, but is now ‘believed to be deceased’ along with First Lieutenant Tyler James Feehan, 25, and Private Isabella Gonzales, 19, who were also killed in the attack. 

Rampersad belonged to the same unit as Gonzales — the 10th Army Air & Missile Defense Command based in Ansbach, Germany.

‘Angel was truly a gift to everyone who knew her. She never sought attention or recognition. She simply wanted to serve, protect others and do her duty with courage and humility,’ New York Assemblyman Pesach Osina said in a statement.

He went on to say he was in contact with Rampersad’s mother, Carol Acevedo, and her father, Basdeo Rampersad.

‘There are no words that can ease the pain of losing a child, but our entire community stands beside them during this unimaginable time,’ Osina said.

‘May Angel’s memory be a blessing and may God bring comfort and strength to her family and to the families of the other two service members.’

Meanwhile, a fourth US soldier killed in Iraq during a controlled detonation of an Iranian drone over the weekend was identified on Tuesday as Sgt Michael Emmanuel Swinton, a 30-year-old father from North Carolina who had served for nearly a decade.

Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton will now receive a Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Action Badge, and will be promoted to staff sergeant. The Army said it was investigating the circumstances of his death Sunday at an air base in Irbil.

Swinton leaves behind a six-year-old son and a four-year-old daughter, his mother said.

‘I will never recover from this,’ his wife, Mia Gonzalez-Swinton, posted Monday on Facebook. ‘We had so many plans for when you got back, I’m sick to my stomach.’ She said she was notified Sunday that he had been killed.

‘His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, the laughter he shared, the strength he gave others, and the unconditional love he poured into his family,’ she said via text message. ‘He will forever be missed, forever honored, and forever our hero.’

Swinton enlisted in the Army in 2017 and was assigned to the 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

He lived in Spring Lake, a popular off-base location for Fort Bragg families, according to pubic records. The military gave his hometown as Fayetteville, another nearby community.

‘Sgt. Swinton was an experienced noncommissioned officer who took great pride in his work and the people around him,’ said Brig. Gen. John L. Dawber, commanding general of the Army Air and Missile Defense Command. ‘He answered the call to duty with courage, honor, and selfless dedication.’

A total of 18 US servicemembers have been killed since the war against Iran began in late February.

Despite a brief ceasefire, hostilities were re-enflamed last week after Iranian forces fired on a commercial ship traversing the Strait of Hormuz, through which one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes. 

The US fired back at Iran in the aftermath, and the renewed strikes between the two countries have now continued for an 11th straight night on Tuesday as Iran kept up its attacks against US allies in the region and once again struck a tanker in the strait, forcing the crew to abandon the ship.

As day broke in the Middle East, sirens in Bahrain and Kuwait warned residents of incoming projectiles.

At the same time, Iran-backed Yemen’s Houthi rebels declared a naval blockade of Saudi Arabia, threatening the flow of global oil supplies and trade. 

With the Strait of Hormuz blocked up, the kingdom has been relying on a pipeline to the Red Sea to get millions of barrels of oil out to market.

A news agency in Yemen that is run by the Houthis, SABA, said Tuesday that six ships in the Red Sea were forced to reroute after they received warnings from the rebel group.

Three Houthi officials told the Associated Press the group warned international shipping companies on Monday to avoid transiting through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the gateway to the Red Sea on the opposite side of the Arabian Peninsula from the Strait of Hormuz.

Amid the fighting, the international benchmark for crude oil traded Tuesday above $91 a barrel and regular gasoline in the US climbed to an average of $4 a gallon.

At the same time, an estimated $37 billion has been spent in the US on the war effort – as the Trump administration demands another $67 billion in emergency funding for the conflict.

But with US midterm elections approaching in the fall, polls have pointed to the unpopularity of the war among Americans, who have felt the pain of pricier gas and seen new casualties in a conflict that weeks ago seemed to be winding down.

As Secretary of War Pete Hegseth then petitioned Congress to approve the increased funding on Tuesday, he was berated by protesters.

‘Your hands are bloody,’ one woman said as US Capitol police dragged her from the room.

Hegseth resumed talking, only to be interrupted again a few seconds later. 

‘Stop bombing our children in Iran and Palestine – this is illegal,’ a second woman stood and shouted.

Both held signs saying in all caps, ‘NO WAR ON IRAN.’

Meanwhile overseas, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni visited Pakistan, a key mediator in the conflict seeking to revamp diplomacy where he met Pakistan’s army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

In a statement, Sharif expressed deep concern over the recent US-Iran escalation, and urged all sides to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could further destabilize the region.

Pakistan’s political leadership and Munir, who serves as both the chief of army staff and defense forces, played a key role in brokering last month´s interim agreement between the US and Iran. Islamabad has been working to persuade both sides to return to the negotiating table.

US President Donald Trump also told reporters that Iranian officials ‘want to desperately meet. And until they’re ready to meet in a meaningful way, we have no interest in meeting.’ 

He said the US would soon target the area near Pickaxe Mountain – a fortified underground site near one of Iran´s primary nuclear enrichment facilities.

Iran’s military leaders said any attack on nuclear or ‘other sensitive facilities’ would be considered a major escalation, according to a statement reported by Iranian state media.

‘We declare that if the invading and terrorist military of that country enters such a phase, we will regard it as an expansion of the war across the region, and all interests of the United States, its allies, and its supporters will become targets of powerful attacks by the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran,’ said the statement from the armed forces’ Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie‘s youngest daughter Vivienne has filed to legally drop the actor’s last name. 

The 18-year-old has followed in the footsteps of her three older siblings and filed a petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court requesting that her legal name be changed from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.

The reason behind the teenager’s name change is listed as ‘personal,’ according to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail. An official court hearing is scheduled for November 2.

The petition is only the latest move in Vivienne’s ongoing effort to distance herself from the Pitt name.

Back in May 2024, she notably dropped her father’s surname in the Playbill program for the Broadway production of The Outsiders, listing her name as Vivienne Jolie while serving as a producer alongside her mother.

Born in 2008 alongside twin brother Knox, Vivienne is the youngest of the former couple’s six children. 

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Pitt and Jolie for comment.

‘Petitioner Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt filed a petition with this court for a decree changing names as follows: Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie,’ the other said.

The notices both invite dissenting parties to appear at a scheduled hearing over the matter; Zahara’s is scheduled for September 28 while Maddox’s is on September 14.

In the state of California, those seeking to legally change their name must publish an Order to Show Cause, a document requesting the name change, for four weeks in a row in a newspaper before their court date.

Zahara’s notice appeared a month after she filed a petition requesting that her new name be Zahara Marley Jolie.

Maddox also filed to drop the actor’s last name in late May.

Zahara publicly dropped the last name three years ago when she joined a sorority at Spelman College.

She also went by Zahara Marley Jolie during her graduation ceremony, which her father reportedly skipped, according to TMZ.

‘Nothing prevented him from showing up for her. Or ever visiting her. The day was about all she accomplished. Not whether he was willing to attend,’ a source close to Jolie told the publication.

However, multiple sources have exclusively spoken to the Daily Mail in defense of Pitt, insisting that he is not the absent father he has been portrayed as and that he wants a relationship with his six children.

Jolie and Pitt’s other daughter Shiloh, 20, has also dropped the actor’s last name. 

Last year, Shiloh, who was born Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, legally changed her name to Shiloh Jolie.

At the time, in a statement shared with People, Shiloh’s lawyer Peter Levine said she ‘made an independent and significant decision following painful events,’ adding that she was ‘merely following legal process’ when publishing notice of the change. 

Pitt’s relationship with son Pax, 22, who previously called his father a ‘world-class a**hole’ and accused him of making his younger siblings ‘tremble in fear’, doesn’t seem to be any better, though it is not known if he has stopped using the name as well.

A source previously told the Daily Mail how Pitt felt after Pax was pictured stumbling out of the Chateau Marmont last year propped up by several friends.

‘Brad honestly considers his relationship with Pax unfixable,’ they added.

The source went on to say that the actor doesn’t appear to be planning any outreach to either of his adopted sons: ‘Pax and Maddox have made it abundantly clear how they feel and Brad has nothing to say about either of them.’ 

As for his other children, the source said that Pitt ‘holds out hope that the others will one day come around. Time heals wounds.’

They married in August 2014 during a secret ceremony in the South of France and welcomed three children together during their romance: Shiloh in 2006 and twins Vivienne and Knox in 2008.

They also adopted two more, Zahara and Pax, and Pitt legally adopted the son that Angelina had adopted before they got together, Maddox.

Pitt and Jolie’s marriage ended after a volatile plane incident in 2016 and abuse allegations, which Pitt has adamantly denied. 

He has also never been charged with a crime and the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services cleared Pitt of physical abuse allegations.

The A-listers went on to battle it out in a grueling eight-year divorce battle that was finalized in 2024. 

The family divide was again brought to the forefront when Pitt’s mother, Jane Etta Pitt, died last year at the age of 84.

Sources revealed at the time that she had been cut off from her grandchildren for about nine years and they did not get a chance to speak before her death.
