Fifteen-month-old twin girls have tragically died “from dehydration” after being discovered lifeless in their beds in France. Their parents have subsequently been placed in police custody.

The devastating incident occurred in Beuvrages, near Valenciennes in Nord, where four additional children in the household – aged three, four, five and six – were also reportedly found suffering from dehydration.

According to RTL, one sibling remains in critical condition in hospital following an emergency airlift from the property. The parents reportedly discovered the twins deceased in bed, with sources in France claiming they were allegedly in a state of rigor mortis.

The couple were transported to Valenciennes police station while their residence was cordoned off pending investigation. Authorities are examining the case as “deprivation of care resulting in the death of a minor under 15 years of age”, reports the Daily Star.

In a statement issued this evening (June 29), Valenciennes public prosecutor confirmed the twin girls were discovered “lifeless in their respective beds”.

Officials also announced an autopsy scheduled for tomorrow (June 30) to establish the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The prosecutor is “exploring in particular the possibility of dehydration due to the high temperature recorded.”
