Two cyclists are dead after car ploughed into group near Gravesend: Three people arrested

Two cyclists have died after being hit by a vehicle near Gravesend – with a third in hospital. 

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Sole Street in Cobham, Kent, after a Ford Focus ploughed into the group of bike-riders shortly before 8am on Sunday.

A man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s both died at the scene, Kent Police confirmed this evening.

Another cyclist was taken to a local hospital for treatment on injuries described as minor. 

Two men, one aged 20 and the other 21, have since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. 

Another suspect – a 19-year-old woman – was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. 

The force is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen the car or cyclists this morning to contact them. 

A statement released by Kent Police read: ‘Witnesses are sought following a double fatal collision in Cobham near Gravesend.

‘At 7.47am on Sunday 6 September 2026, a white Ford Focus was travelling in a south westerly direction along Sole Street towards Meopham, when it was involved in a collision with three cyclists.

‘Emergency services attended the scene near the junction with Round Street where two of the riders, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s, were confirmed to be deceased. Their next of kin have been informed.

‘The third cyclist was taken to a local hospital for treatment to injuries described as minor.

‘Two men aged 20 and 21 were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. A 19-year-old woman was also detained on suspicion of assisting an offender.’
