Two in hospital after serious crash in Scots town as police close road

Two people are in hospital after a serious crash in a Lanarkshire town.

Emergency services raced to the two-vehicle collision on the A73 at the Sherifflats Road junction in Thankerton, South Lanarkshire, at 1.30pm on Thursday, September 17. Crews attended and two people were found injured.

Their current conditions are unknown. The road remains closed off while a police investigation is carried out.

Drivers have been asked to avoid the area.

A statement from Police Scotland reads: “The A73 is currently closed in both directions at Thankerton due to a serious crash which happened at the Sherifflats Road junction. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1.30pm on Thursday, 17 September, 2026 following the crash involving two-vehicles.

“Two people have been taken to hospital. Drivers are asked to avoid the area where possible.”
